AM not working

Love my cricket and often listen to ABC. For some reason FM works perfectly but AM is hit and miss.. Sometimes when u turn the car on it works, then other times not at all. And when it does work, AM only stays on for about 3-4 mins, then complete silence, not even static.. I'm not particularly concerned, just keen to hear any ideas
Cheers

Sedan or wagon?

My guess is the power connection to the amplifier for the antenna is faulty.

I've experienced the same problem in the last two weeks. I'd listen to radio national or 774 quite often in Melbourne. I noticed it dying when I'd go under a bridge on the freeway, then the volume I could hear would reduce greatly. Then in the last week; using the seek function comes up with no stations on the AM band at all. FM / AUX / CD all work fine. I can only imagine it has one Ariel connection.

Yes, but the lack of any long vertical elements in the demister/antenna mean it is pretty deaf at lower frequencies, which is why it needs an active RF amplifier mounted very close the the back window.
(FM uses much higher frequencies than AM).

So why would AM work for years, & now not?

The amplifier was working for years, and now the power supply connection for it may be faulty, which is what I said above.

ok, would I find this amplifier near the rear window to check to see if it's faulty?

This is out of the MY04 to MY06 Liberty Service Manual.

I don't think subaru would of changed the position of the Antenna Amplifier between pre & post facelift.

Hey all, encountering the same thing whilst trying to pick up the cricket on 702. FM works fine. Driving an 07 tbSTI sedan with the mcintosh system.
Will attempt to check if the amplifier power supply is faulty. will report back.

I'm having the same problem in my MY08 Liberty 3R-B - AM radio suddenly stopped working about 3 weeks ago. FM radio, CD and Sat Nav are unaffected. Dashboard thermometer is also playing up. Even on the hot Sydney day a few weeks ago where temps nudged 46 degrees it would show 27 degrees. I fear there is something nasty happening with the electrical system. Any assitance or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Just wondering if there has been any firm results on this, is it the power supply to the amp or the amp itself? I started a thread but put it under general issues (not audio). Went static and then dropped out

MY07 GT-b Wagon Mcintosh

I assume there is a 12V out of radio that goes to amp when radio on?, could anyone let me know which wire that is?
