Hi Everyone, i have registered for the forum today and have only just bought myself an 07 liberty sti. There is an auxilary button on my stock 14 speaker makintosh system in the sti, but i cant find where the input is. do i have to take the centre console apart and plug it into the back of the system?thanks for your help

You'll have to buy an Aux adapter from Subaru.

They'll charge you around $200 so supply and fit, I believe you can find them cheaper elsewhere & fit yourself fairly easily, someone else will be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks mate, i have a feeling there will be inputs at the back ready to go, will have to take the dash/centre console apart anyway as im wiring an amp and sub to the stock system. have done it before on my other cars, hopefully its not too big of a job on the subaru

I'd recommend doing a bit of research on this cos the factory stereo is quite complex. A simple way of describing it is don't think that the head unit and amp are separate units. So in other words its not as simple as taking out the stock amp and chucking in a new one cos the new one may struggle with the output of the head unit

The inputs at the back are not standard 3.5mm or RCA's. It is a Subaru plug that connects to a 3.5mm female connector that goes in the centre console.

In regards to installing an amp and sub, easiest way is to take the current sub connection and supply that to your new sub amp.

No point pulling the headunit out as there is sweet fuck all you can do to it.

thanks mihai, thats great. is it hard getting to the back to plug in the subaru plug, do i need to take off many panels? also do you know where the amp is located for the sub?

It is easy to remove. Remove gearshift surround, vertical strips either side of headunit and its a matter of a few screws from there.

The amp is under the passenger seat.

Thanks Zach, youve just saved me from hours of googling this shit so i can use the existing subaru wires to plug into my current amp and sub from my previous car?

Do you have the headphone jack in the Center console cubby?

It's not quite that simple, my understanding is the headunit sends the signal digitally to the amp and you can't just get any amp to read this signal. The amp then powers all 14 speakers so to run another amp you'd have to take high level input from one of the speaker wires. Thought about just upgrading the existing sub and adding sound deadening? Won't give you a car you hear coming from 100m away but a good improvement.

I purchased a 4 channel high to low audio level converter earlier today before joining the forum, I used one on my girlfriends 2010 swift to keep the stock head unit. It works well, you simply splice the rear speaker wires as well as the power wire from the head unit, wire it through the converter, then the converter to the amp. Maybe I can disconnect the current sub, and to the same with the Subaru rear speakers? And no, unfortunately I don't have a headphone jack in the centre console

Yeah that'll work, I'd probably disconnect the sub in the parcel shelf and use the connections for that as the high level input. Do those high to low converters sound any good? Always thought they were pretty crappy...

Then get this part number from Subaru SUH6210AG000 and wire it up yourself to get aux input in your centre console. Costs about $120 unfitted I think...

That's absolute rubbish. HU output / amp input is a balanced analogue signal not digital.

Search ... All the info; it's all there.

All I will say is that if the headunit sent out a digital signal, most people wouldnt even consider changing they sound system because it would sound incredible!
