What speakers would anyone recommend for a Lib?
I plan on running the speakers through a five channel amp with a sub, so I prefer clarity in mids and highs and to let the sub do the bass.
I listen to mainly classic rock so I prefer bass to accompany, not over power.
Can anyone recommend anything?
I'd like to get front and rear speakers for under $500 combined preferable.

If you are after splits, then bang for buck, pioneer splits are good sounding if you are running through an amp. I think tsa1604. No crossovers so you don't have to be hiding a box elsewhere. If you want cheap and clear go for them. Their pretty cheap too (129 rrp) and pump. Then put the rest of the money towards a better sub....or amp

We can tell you a whole bunch of speakers that may fit the bill, however all I can say is that every person has different hearing, and what might sound good to me doesn't to you.

Therefore, head into your nearest specialised car audio dealer and audition as many speakers as you can. Take a CD or USB with the type of music you listen to you and see what you like.

In regards to splits though, try and steer clear of splits that do not have a crossover. They don't have the same quality as those with an inline crossover.

Also, forget rear speakers. They are an unnecessary waste of money. Keep the stock rears, cut the bass from them and they are loud enough. Spend the money you are saving by not buying rears on better quality fronts, you won't be dissapointed

I'm not looking for too cheap, I want clear sounding speakers, I'm not a fan of Pioneer gear, thank you for your help though.
A visit to Jaycar may be in order. Thanks for the information about the rear speakers, I can upgrade later if I'm still not happy I suppose.

Not too sure if they'd fit into the Liberty factory mounts or not, but I have some 6.5" Jaycar Response Kevlar splits with separate cross-over I'd be willing to let go

I would recommend scrapping your trip to jaycar and go to a place that sells only car audio.

In theory they should be the best place to go in terms of their demo setup and also for a good range of quality brands.

Listen to a bunch of speakers in your price range (with your preferred music, as mentioned above) and select the ones you prefer.

[Edit] Also, as mentioned above, you would definitely be better off spending the whole $500 on some 6.5" splits for the front and leaving the rears.
A decent set of splits with a sub and you can get awesome sound. And if you already have a 5 channel amp you could even bi-amp the splits if you wanted.

Hit up Northfield Moorooka for a specialised car audio dealer.

Forget about JB Hifi, Autobarn, Strathfield etc. The sales guys there have no clue and will try and sell you the highest priced speakers in your price range.

Btw, what amp will you be using?

I thought the jaycar digital amps were great bang for buck?

I'd recommend investing in good sq splits for the front. The rears are less important because you sit in the front of the car and the splits will be driving the sound to u.

I'm a little out of the game so what used to be good might not be anymore.

Definitely follow the recommendation of taking music that u listen to into a specialist store so u can hear what it sounds like.

I've got Alpine type R splits in the front.... Sound awesome... Love them!

Yeah, 5 channel amps are built to run 4 speakers and a sub. However if you want massive sound you would be better off with 2 separate amps with more power coming out of each one.
Basically you are trading cost and space for power per speaker.

You should also be able to run it bridged and run 2 speakers + sub and have more power to the 2 speakers.

Except you don't get a local warranty and the ZX's have quite a large footprint for the power they output.

If you are after a 5 channel, look into Alpine's MRX-V60 or the older PDX-5, JL Audio HD900/5 or XD700/5 or the Rockford Fosgate P1000X5D. These are all Class D amps, so they all have quite a small footprint with decent power output for what they are.

I was almost going to get a ZX actually but at the moment I'm thinking more along the lines Rockford Fosgate Prime R600-5.
Hoping to run speakers and 1x10 sub from that, so I think it should have the juice.
Will be getting some $$ together for audio very shortly...
