As topic states guys, ive connected my my stereo system up temporarily to test that everything works

This has turned out to be a nightmare of an install but I'll skip that for now...

I'm temporarily using the ignition 12v memory wire that connects to the headunit to trigger my two amps. This was just to test if everything worked ok.

This is not ideal however as the amps will switch on with ignition even if headunit is off, and will potentially drain my battery. Also the current draw may be too high and pop a fuse.

My factory wiring is NOT for a mcinotsh setup, so I don't know if there is a remote wire i can tap into.

I've tested the output side of the headunit with multimeter and can't find a signal from here

Where are some of the places you guys have taken your trigger wires from when installing aftermarket amps?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

what headunit are you using? an aftermarket should have remote wire. factory wouldn't so as you're doing is the best way.

If you have a plug on the headunit for a 6 stacker or gps or something you may be able to get a trieer from there to turn it on

When I was running stock head unit I took the remote from the cigarette lighter socket.

If you are worried about battery drain if the head unit is off you can add a separate toggle switch on the remote on line also.

I'm running the headunit out of a Subaru outback (6 stacker mp3 kenwood) - no gps but it does have an aux input.

I have a switch I can use to toggle the amps on and off but ideally I'd like to have it turn on and off with the headunit.

From the diagram I might be able to do it fom the aux output/ input

Thoughts?

Personally I'd still run off a switched source such as the cigarette lighter.

Reason being is im not 100% sure if the AUX will provide a signal at all times or only when AUX is selected. If that was the case, you could use the Antenna amplifier wire however I know that that signal is off when the headunit isnt in FM/AM mode.

I had both my amps running in off the cigarette lighter socket for well over a year without any problems regarding battery drain etc.

As I said. If it really bothers you, run it off the cigarette lighter socket with a switch inline that you can turn off if you feel that there may be battery drain issues. But I honestly doubt that there will be any drainage issues.

I have a diagram with the gps. I'll post it up tomorrow night when I'm on my pc. The switch is a good idea but I'm lazy and like it to be switched for me. Also I like oem/subtle mods. Like my Mcintosh in my gen2

After having a look the wiring doesn't seem to differ for the GPS models in terms of power input/outputs.

It could be done, but it would take a little bit of hands on work with a multimeter to figure it out.

my08 GPS? because that DOES have an amplifier trigger wire, you just need to "Add" it... i've done that on my install and it works perfectly...

what year is the outback ? the wire colour is different between generations, in the fourth gen the acc (which does your cig lighter, radio and satnav) is the yellow red wire. it is one of the two centre pins on the radio harness, i beleive it is pin 10.
