MY04 Mac Amp replacements?

Postby chook » Fri Jun 15, 2012 6:41 am

Hey guys,
just wondering if you knew of a good alternative for the standards Mac system, everything is stock bar the dodgy amp the previous owner whacked in and has now shat itself,
A local car stereo joint quoted me $1000 to install some pioneer amp but that seems a little pricey!

Any help would be great,

Cheers,
Chook.

what is your price range and where are you located???

If you're not after something uber expensive then you can look at the Jaycar amps which are pretty decent bang-for-buck solutions. The Alpine PDX range are above average but are a bit more expensive. They have a small footprint as well so they are great underfloor solutions. Most amps these days are relatively small so you really won't have many issues.

At the moment, I am a big fan of the Hertz HDP4 which is a very solid middle of the range 4 channel amp.

You can always get in touch with Marty from FHRX Studios who will be happy to help you out with suggestions and also Rick from formAUDIO is very knowledgeable and has done some lovely installs.

All depends on whether or not you are going to keep the McIntosh headunit.

Installation cost will be more if you are going to keep the McIntosh headunit as they will need to hack the interconnect cable to add RCA's to it etc.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

My price range would probably be around $500 or so and I live just out of Canberra, I might check out Jaycar i think there is one in Fyshwick.

I would be keeping the stock head unit for now and the crappy amp that's in the car has been "hacked" into the cable from the Mac head unit. The last owner put a shitty amp in that is clearly not powerful enough, I've never heard my sub, the rear speakers don't work and it cuts in and out oh and buzzes when you press the door lock button? So yeah "hacked" would be a good word for it.

Thanks again,
Chook.
