They are getting cheaper everyday.

I still dun like the idea of having sumfing stick off my windscreen.

Will keep saving for a in dash navi system.

$200 vs $2000... I'd pick the $200 one.

Only put it up when you need it.... it's not so bad.

why not mod the gps, so it fits in that compartment just above the head unit? and when ur not using it, just pull the flap down ?, so no one will see it :)

Well I tried some blind navigation on Friday, using the unit to take me from Oakleigh to Carrum Downs to pickup some stuff for work.
The Navman contains 2007 Sensis/WhereIs maps, but I soon realised the damn thing intended to take me down Eastlink. Anyone who lives in Melbourne knows that's slightly impossible ;)
(I realised while driving past the Ferntree Gully Rd/Springvale Rd on the Monash freeway, so only had to reverse 50 metres back up the emergency lane to get back on track ;))

Got a Tomtom One XL last week.

All I can say is it has everything I need, and at $440, only a little bit more than the Aldi one.

Mounted it (with the alternate mount kit) up near the rear vision mirror, sticks on the back of the little black dots near the mirror (so you cant see suction cap marks).

Cut the cigarette lighter cord, added about 2 meters more length, and mated them together. (So I have a 3 meter cord)

The ran it in the roof lining down the side, under drivers footwell, through centre console and plugged into the rear cigarette lighter.

When I take the suction off all I can see is a little bit of cord, that I poke up in the roof.

Great as thieves can't see that you have a GPS, and it only takes 10 seconds to put it in and out.

"Install" of the GPS took about 20 mins total.

Hi SkoobyGT,

I have a TomTom One as well and would like to mount it where yours is. Does the sun visor clear the unit?. Can you post a pic.

Garry

Yeah, Ill post a pic, when I get a spare 5 mins

I can put my sun visor down and it blocks the screen, but no biggy if I need the visor down because it's so bright, I wont be looking at the screen anyways.

Nice work Mick, I like it.

The fact that it is outta sight is the best feature I reckon.
