Aldi $229 Navigation unit

Stereos, amps, phone kits, Navi...

I see how many get stolen, and I was sick of wiping the window all the time, so i mounted up the top.

I don't lose any view up the top, whereas I lost some when it was down the bottom.

My biggest issue with the windscreen mount is that you never make full use of the navs features as in speed camera warnings & handsfree due to having to take it off and on so some bastard won't steal it.
I went to a little extra trouble and mounted it where the cubby use to be.
The clock needed to come out to fit neatly, I left the buttons in so it still looks OK...The Navs got a clock so no big deal.

I'm planning on making a surround to finish it off in the next week or so.
I'll post a finshed pic when I'm done but here is what it looks like so far.

nice decision on where to put it, i also tried to place my pioneer nav into it, but it didnt fit very well, it seems to me that you removed the lid of the cubby, wouldnt that attract theives anyway? also, what about the charger?

Bobolicious, nice install. I was planning on putting it there, but not right inside so I can still transfer it to the other car easily.
Why did you have to remove the clock? Is it protruding down into where the clock was?

I got a Mio C520 as an option with my lease. I figure if I am driving around town I know where I am going 95% of the time, same with most places I travel to interstate. More of a gimmick really and if needed I just pop it on the window, so far I have used it as a speedo when driving on the highway in map mode rather than 'direction' mode.
Couldn't justify $2k for something I might use half a dozen times a year, $2 extra per fortnight on the lease was more appealing.

Rather spend 2K on wheels or a tune.

I had to take the clock out because the Navman power adapter is underneath and there isn't quite enough space.
I hardwired the cigarette lighter adapter behind the dash so when you turn the ignition on it turns the unit on as well.

Yes I did have to take the cover off but I'm planning to use it to just sit over it when required.

FYI, the NAVMAN is running Windoes CE 5 in the background.
I've had task manager and control panel running on mine ;)

Ric,
Have you got a S series Navman?
If so have you got the sms messages to pop up on the screen from your phone? I've got a Nokia N95 8gb and it won't work.
I also put the external mic in as the sound quality from the inbuilt mic was pretty ordinary, now it works great!

Can you point me to a website which shows how to install other apps on it?

Thanks,

Bob.
