What the; I have never seen that unit before.

You will need to confirm that it's designed for your head unit - standard Kenwood vs premium Mcintosh.

Segr, I was going to email them and try and get as much info as possible about it. However I figured at that price plus shipping it was too pricey. The biggest drawback for me is that it doesn't charge the iPhone and its a risky purchase as it may not work. I'll email them anyway and post the reply (if any) as it may help some people.

Pretty darn quick response!! However doesn't help to much as he is not at liberty  to say whether or not it will work with Australian cars. Sorry that was a shocker. Anyway here is the attachment he sent in the email http://db.tt/HafD0wsH

And here is the body of the email:

Hello

We are a store in the USA.
Our Subaru items and products have been tested for North American markets only.

We would have no way of knowing if this item can be used in markets outside of the USA
Subaru of America does not permit us parts look up or diagrams for outside markets.
We simply have no way to verify if this part will work in your vehicles I'm afraid.

I have attached an installation guide for the ipod kit  - I hope this will help with your research.

Shipping:
To calculate shipping on our accessories site:
1 – add the items to your cart and continue

2 – go to your shopping cart, log in

3 – the web site will show you shipping options and prices before you are billed.

Contact me with questions.
Thank you,

Have a price from my LOCAL subie dealer.
and it's cheaper than the price on the SGP website.
Awaiting confirmation for HU compatibility.

Part# is

Is that the part number for the AUX jack that sits in the centre console? I emailed Subaru and asked for part number H6210AG000. He emailed back this reply:

"Hi Chris

I have one of those kits on stock. They have updated the part number for it, so it is now H6210AG010. the AUX cable is $123.50."

Anyway long story short, I purchased and installed it
Below are some photos if anyone cares... Sorry about the quality, they were taken with iphone.

First thing I did was remove the head unit and ash tray/ciggarette plug. had to unplug all the cables.Image

Second I removed the square blank plate from centre console and ran a snake through the hole so it popped out where the HU should be.

I then taped the AUX cable to it and pulled it back through to the centre console. The AUX cable seems to be perfect length with just enough to play with. No need to bundle any up.

I then plugged in the AUX square piece and secured it, connected all the plugs including new AUX plug into the radio and tested it. As long as a device is plugged in, it worked fine (obviously no steering wheel controls to change song.)

No worries mate. I wasnt gonna post this coz I didnt know if it would be of help to anyone...
I used an electricians snake. Try not to use a live one in case u get bitten. Nah seriously though u could probably use some stiff cable as a substitute or just try and run the AUX cable through as it is pretty stiff itself. I found bending the snake up a little bit helped it not get caught on the way through. Just keep it to the left. It was a bit fiddly to get it through but with a little jiggling it was OK! I purchased a cable like the one below, off ebay. Hasnt arrived yet so I dont know if it will work. Basically (hopefully) the usb and line out goto the centre console 12v and AUX plugs, and the other end goes to the iphone. It means u only need to plug the bottom connector in to charge and listen to music instead of having 2 plugged in. I just hope it works. Cost about $5.

Thats one of the cheapest I think. Comes with a 12V/USB adapter too.

Otherwise just search for something like "iphone charger line out"

*Edit*
If you dont wanna spend your money just yet, in case it doesnt work for some reason, I can let you know when I get it if it works or not?

I've been using a similar cable, although with video out too plugged into a 12V USB charger. I found none of those cheap USB cigarette lighter adapters work with my 4GEN iPod touch or iPhone 4S, Ended up just buying a good one for $20 locally and it works. The cheap cables work, although if you want video out you need a proper one with a chip in it. If sound quality is important there is some interference through the cables so it's worth getting some quality ones.

Would be nice if they could at least tell you whether it's for the McIntosh or Kenwood HU and which model years it's known to work with! (even if in the US)

I'll e-mail back and ask... Except I will ask about the Legacy model in America, see if they can provide that info!

Apparantly it works for both...
Here is the reply

"Hello

This item suits the 2007-2009 Legacy USA market design, regardless of interior.

Hope this helps."
