ok, so I've looked at the 2 install guides (non had the same type of handbrake I do, and both started by removing this. Mine seems to be stitched in place??) and I can't find a bloody thing on the subaru webpage.

HELP PLS!! :close_tema:

The hand brake's leather 'boot' is attached to a single vinyl/plastic panel which attaches down the right hand side of the centre console. It's just to the left of the driver's seat. This panel is clipped in to plastic clippybits(tm) like just about everything else on the vehicle interior.

Grab the panel as best you can, down low near the floor, and pull it up with a yanking motion. With enough force it'll come loose. You might be able to help pry it up a little using a card or screwdriver wrapped in cloth.

More info here too: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10462

Getting the handbrake boot off was the single hardest part of the install for me!

Also I made some notes about the install here. Heed the warning about the softness of the dash vinyl trim!

Yeah the clips are pretty strong, both in hanging on and resisting breaking. 99% of the time you'll hurt yourself by catching fingers on something when it suddenly releases, rather than breaking the trim or clips.

Are you outside my house?? :assassin:

Fuck, FINALLY got it all out, bits all over the place. Only took me about 2 hrs too, very impressed. When I plug the xcarlink unit in, the head unit just flashes up "subaru" on and off...I've pulled it back out and everything works perfectly. big fat sigh. Guess that's it then? There was another guy with the same problem, just a different cable, and he couldn't get it going either.

Now I have the depressing prospect of putting it all back together again w/out the ipod instanlled :(

Fluf - you have an MY07 don't you?

Your statement is probably correct - you're probably shagged because it's not an 04 to 06 HU.

If you pull it out (the head unit!) would you mind taking a photo of the front and back of it and noting any visible model number on the back? Someone else wanted this info, can't remember who - but may be useful for future reference.

@fluf: Long shot, but is the Xcarlink one of the adapters that have internal configuration dipswitches? If so you might just need the right on/off combo.

Heyall,

The car is an MY05 3.0rb. No idea why this isn't working!?!?!?! I've taken some pics of the HU to see if that will shed any light on this situation.

I can't see a way to open this thing to check for any internal switches.

So bummed.

Looks like I'll either get one of these http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio ... CL-ID.aspx for bugger all or http://www.advancedice.com.au/products2/Subaru/15006 for 200. The 2nd option is a half hour drive from my house, but they don't sell direct. Means I need to put the ******* car back together for the wife, and do this all over again

Shit... I'm starting to think maybe I got lucky with mine. (MY05 also)

It seems all of these interface cables may have as poor a track record as each other.

Just for the record did you go for the plain ipod-based xcarlink? (not the USB one)

Good point on the DIP switches - can it be opened to check?

:-(

Tim was it the USB or ipod version? I just looked at the photos of them and they look like completely different units. If you have the USB version maybe it simply isn't compatible with our head units.

BJ/bradr does yours work?
