Post Install : Results of mac sub replacement

To all the people who have replaced the standard sub, without replacing the amp, using some form of 8 inch 4 ohm sub with a spacer, how did it go? Im thinking of ordering one if it even works 'as' well as the factory one.

Forget changing the sub without changing and/or adding another Amp. You are just wasting your money and it will sound worse.
factory amp has no balls and wont drive anything except the factory sub.Poorly.....
There is plenty of reading all about it in this section. A bit further down.

I was running a Vibe Space8 in the stock location. Running off a seperate amp and it sounded pretty good. Can't compare to the McIntosh though as my car didnt have it.

I've since upgraded to a 12" in my boot and the 8" doesn't compare to the 12" at the moment.

Im sure running the vibe 8s with an amp of choice, sounded pretty good is still better than the stock sub. Doesnt have the punch let alone the KICK!!!!! hehhehe

so the stock amp isnt powerful enough to 'punch' my new sub but im happy with it for now anyway. theres more low bass then the macintosh, it fit in the standard spot without spacers, was mounted from the underside. i chose a polk 8040db sub which is 8inch and fits in the stock location. was $230 fitted. it would be better if i got a new amp but in case anyones wondering, it is possible and isnt too bad if your sub actually dies.

My last car was a small hatchback and I had the polk mm2084 8 inch sub fibreglassed into the rear quarter panel and I loved it.
It was super responsive and had heaps of bass. Of course it wasn't so great at super lows like a 12 inch would be but I think it went low enough and sounded great.
