Hi,

I am new and this is my first post. So hello.

I have just bought an MY05 Lib GT wagon with a busted CD stacker. I was wondering if the MY07 headunit and climate control is a plug and play changeover? The fascia looks heaps better on thae updated model.

Thanks,
Leigh

Bumping as I'm also interested.

I know the physical fit is fine but there is a slight difference in the rear connections, is there an update on an easy solution for this?

Has anyone managed to get dual zone climate control working in a pre-facelift model?

Anyone want to guess if Subaru would be willing to do the swap and what they would charge including new parts? I'm going to call and ask tomorrow, but I'm sure the service manager will laugh...

Search as this has been covered before.

It will fit. The plugs are the same on pre-facelift vs facelift however the climate control apparently does not work.

The McIntosh headunit will NOT work in the pre-facelift or a facelift with the standard stereo.

Dual zone climate control will not work in a single zone car without significant other mods.

If you really do want to spend the time and effort trying to get it to work, then that is your choice however it will be much cheaper and more beneficial to spend the extra cash now and upgrade to aftermarket.

Michael you may e able to help with this one

As you know I have the 07gtb parts car and after stupidly selling the mcintosh an speaker /amp setup out of it i have just acquired another of the same (through sheer luck actually)

The reason I need to swap to this is because I'm converting my 5speed auto in my 04 to a six speed and will need to change the surround and bottom half of dash to do this. Thus will need to swap headunits too. I'm going to be running a audiocotrol lc6 and ditch the amp etc.

So when you say the climate control won't work, do you mean it won't work at all? Or willy single zone still work and the passenger side knob will just free spin?

Keep in mind I still have everthing From the donor car I can transfer over to make it all work

Thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated

Mick

I don't think the facelift heater controls are compatible with the pre-facelift system.

There was a guy that bought a facelift headunit to put into his pre-facelift for the added MP3 compatibility. The climate control plugs in 100% but it didn't work for him. IIRC he said that it powered on, however the knobs and buttons did nothing to the output of the vents.

Only way to determine for sure in your case is to connect it up and see if it works for you as his was the standard system not the McIntosh.

As for installing a dual zone into a single zone car that shouldn't be a problem as one knob will control the temperate for the whole car and the other knob will display a temperature but have no effect.

Thanks Michael but to be honest I'm still confused

You say he plugged the facelift mcintosh dual zone in and it didnt work. Yet further on you say that dual control in single zone car should be fine

Also just to be clear, my car is a prefacelift base model Gt not a mcintosh version. It had te kenwood six stacker in dash

I'm very confused :P

I cant remember his name, but i spoke to a previous member who had done thins to thier car. The climate control works, but only from the drivers side of the dual zone. You can make the passenger side temperature whatever you like, but it will always be the same as the drivers side.
Effectively the second temperature dial is just a dummy, makes no differenc, but the climate control itself still works. (Assuming you had it to begin with)

The main problem was with the steering wheel controls, The plugs are different, so they didnt work on his car, but DR20t if you have all the bits, if you swap the steering wheel and wiring over you will be fine.

This unit wont work in a non macintosh car without substantial work. In which case it would be cheaper and better to go aftermarket.

I didnt go with it in the end, i couldnt find a post facelift mac unit in the price i wanted to spend.

Have a read of that thread Mick.
I got myself mixed up at the beginning as my mate actually had a dual zone xlimate control installed in his single zone car. Not prefacelift climate in facelift car. Oops. Was 3 years ago however.

What i meant was that a dual zone system will work in a single zone facelift with the pass temp knob having no effect. It may work in the prefacelift, however going by that thread that guy didnt get it working. What you cab do is just unplug the headunit and test it in your car with the heater controls. If it works. Your rocking. If it doesnt then not sure if it can be done easily.

It can be done, post facelift mac to pre facelift mac, but if you didnt start with the macintosh unit, it would be cheaper and better to go aftermarket.

You guys are both legends. Many thanks

As I said the main reasons I'm going with the facelift Mac is due to my 6speed manual conversion. To do this I need to change the centre console surround (which I could have used one from a 6 speed manual 3.orb prefacelift, but the facelifted surround was available to me and saved the headache of searching)

That and also I like the illumination and look of the facelifted Mac unit, and given I have converted my car exterior to a facelift I might as welldo yr de to the interior :)

Will definitely try it before I mount it all in but wanted to confirm with those in the know before buying the facelifted Mac.

I don't really care if dual zone doesn't work as long as my air condition still works

Cheers
Mick

AHA!

I was sure I had seen a facelift dual zone climate control installed in a prefacelift at some stage. And thats the thread that I saw it in!

Now I have no idea as to why the guy didnt get his working in the thread that I posted above.

In theory you COULD get the dual zone to work (since you have the facelift GT-B to get parts from).

At a guess, you would need the AC control unit from within the guts of the dash (or where ever it may be), the wiring the dual condenser unit and whatever else may be required in the dual zone.

However in saying that, it may be quite a bit of work just so the passenger can have a different temperature setting to you which will eventually balance out in the car.

Im also keen to put the MY07 Mcintosh system into my MY05 3.0r-b

has anyone figured out if the steering wheel controls can be hooked up??

i feel that may be the deal breaker, don't know if ill be able to stand no steering wheel controls (first world problem i know)

anyway if anyone has made any leeway into this let me know :)

Just an update on this

I fit the 07 gtb mcintosh setup in my 04 Gt yesterday - what a p.I.t.a that was (and I've installed eight full systems before in various other cars including one that needed new wiring harness made up for the headunit).

Hardest part is due to the fact my car was the non premium model so did mot have the macintosh setup to begin with

Effectively resulted in me having to splice and run new wiring everywhere. At the beginning was contemplating using entire interior wiring harness (which would have involved swapping seat belts and airbag sensors over too), but ended up just making up some speaker wire from the mcintosh amp plug to the front and rear, then taping these up to the standard harness. Reason I did this is I'm planning an amp upgrade soon which will require line out Convertor and thus thought no point doing this for the short term.

Good thing is the climate control works but only single zone not dual zone

Just so I'm clear in my explanation, both sides of the car will receive air from the ac, its just that the two zones will share temperature
