Hi, i have thought of building a box for the factory 8" sub, and placing it behind the drivers side tail lights.
Will it make any improvements?
OR
Can i Box a 10" and route the cabling from the sub on the parcel shelf to said box??
If so, what ohm-age can i use??
cheers,
eddie
p.s. I dont want to replace the factory amp.

I'm assuming it's for a sedan? If so, I wouldn't bother, the sub doesn't have the output to make a meaningful difference if you enclose it and relocate it to the boot. You could remount the sub properly in its' current location while building an enclosure underneath it. Otherwise I would just go with a 10" sub in a ported or sealed enclosure.
The current sub is a 4ohm driver so I wouldn't install anything with a lower impedence. So you will need to look at either a dual 2ohm voice coil or a single 4ohm voice coil.
As for sealed enclosure dimensions for the OEM subwoofer, I have found an enclosure with an outside diameter of 250mm X 250mm using 16mm MDF produced some very good results.

Yeah sedan, Id rather use up the corner of my boot than have a box hanging under my parcel shelf which might be in the way more often, so I think ill go with the 10" in an enclosure behind the right tail light.
Ill just disconnect the wiring from the parcel shelf 8" and route it to the box under the boot carpet and hopefully it should do the trick.

Oh two more questions.
Do you know how many watt the factory 8" sub is? and do i need to get the same wattage speaker in the 10"??

LOL, the factory sub is rated around 35w RMS. You won't find a 10" sub rated that low very easily. Your best bet will be to try and find a sub that is VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY sensitive to make the most out of the very little, very heavily EQ'd power that the amp provides.

HAHAHA so in other words i should just leave the sub in the parcel tray, and don't worry about boxing a 10" if I'm going to keep my factory amp.

Yep, factory amp is a toy. No point changing it with another sub either, it will sound even worse unless you give it some more power.

I spoke to the local car audio place earlier today and he said they could add a sub box with an amp for me without interfering with the Factory amp and door speakers/splits.
They can add RCA converters from the HU then run the RCAs to the box in the boot.
VibeAudio 10" in a box with AMP $480
RCA converter $60
Fitting, wires blah blah $150
total $690

Going to be building the moulds this weekend to shape the fibreglass... Don't really want to do the "mask of your boot and go berko with resin" method, one mistake and your boot lining/paintwork is stuffed. Bugger that...
