Hey all,

Just looking to put a new headunit in my car while retain as much of the original 'look' as possible, thusly I wont be using the double din kits you can currently get as there different to whats in the car.

So I'm looking for a Fasica with the McIntosh and Hvac controls all still on it, I have two questions:

1.on the back of the fascia is hte Hvac controls and stereo in to seperate parts, or are they both sort of in the same 'box'

2. Wrang around some wreckers today and one had a McIntosh DVD setup, now don't know if this guy has any idea whats hes on about, so did mcintosh make a DVD sort of setup for the Spec B. and if so, what does it look like?

The only thing in the Liberty that would accept DVD (as far as I know) would be the Sat nav system. The Mcintosh only supports CD's as far as I know.

Thats what I thought, Hes going to send me a picture on monday (lazy sack :S), so unless McIntoss made a seperate headunit with that all inbuilt this guy has got him self confused...

You might want to speak to Mihai about putting the Mcintosh in, because apparently it's not an easy job and it's mostly pointless or something? He made a huge post on it somewhere on the forums, but I can't be bothered trying to find it.

Oh don't stress mate, I've currently got a Spec. B with the McIntoss unit, I just want the fascia nad A/C controls so i can refinish the fascia, cut out a doulbe din hole and mount a good double din CD player in there, I realise im going about this bass ackwards, but im a bit anal about the appearence of my car inside and out, and I just don't like the look of the Precut fascia kit, with the look of the A/C knobs etc

Mate if you're anal about stock looks like i am, how about a processor? Keeps everything looking stock but once u turn it ON, the whole world changes

If the mcintoss 6 stacket is anything like the kenwood 6 stacker, then the hvac is connected to the internals of the six stacker via a ribbon cable. i tried to disconnect it but there are a craload of screws and metal cases you have to remove before even getting access to it. i gave up.

Also you will find with the mcintoss face plate that the buttons (1 -6) extend past where the cutout for a double din would be. so if your plan is to take it off and cut a double din sized hole in it then in wont work out well. also you wont have the brackets on the rear for mounting the aftermarket headunit.

What is it about the fascia kit you dont like? Its exactly like yours just that the knobs are slightly different and its matt black instead of gloss black. if the colour bothers you theres a place in moorabbin that can apply a piano black finish to any trim piece. not cheap but can be done

In regards to the bitone, yes its an awesome processor, but it costs about 1000 plus installation and tuning. if it isnt tuned properly it wont improve the sound that much, however if tuned properly it can sound amazing. but then you have to look at costs. 1000 for a processor or 450 for fascia + 300-500 for mid to high level single din headunit.

And considering that the facia kit is genuine Subaru. And looks as tho it's meant to be there. I don't know what ur problem is.

Well I'll be perfectly blunt mate , call me a dick head (by all means), I kind of like doing this sort off stuff, as in it will take me a while but i'l fill the holes, recut a double din sized hole, and figure out a way to mount the brackets then refinish the whole fascia, if it looks like shit/dosn't work I've wasted a couple of hundred dollars (stay in for 2/3 weekends instead of going out) and a bit of my time, if it does work I'll be stoked.

The only issue with this is that ribbon cable could cause issues, can anyone confirm if that ribbon cable ins on the Mc units? if so does it actually do anything (realise this sounds stupid).

The only issue with going with the processor is:

1. No ipod control via headunit
2. Already have a $~400 head unit which was awsome in my last car, and has everything I want and as a bonus would fit in wonderfully with the car (same sort of style)
3.Over $1k is a fair old wack...

Again guys a massive thanks for all the options, do's and dont's, by all means keep them comming in, and if has a picture of the back of a mac unit it would be great, I may take one look at it and go "fuck that".
