Bluetooth help...

Hey guys and gals, I need a bit of help with a few wires on my new Nokia Advanced Car Kit CK-7 W.Most of it seems pretty self explanatory, but theres two wires which I dont know where to put.

One is the Yellow wire - "connect the yellow wire to the MUTE connection on the car radio" - anyone know how to find this on the 04GT, im assuming its behind the stereo?

Two the blue wire - "Connect the BLUE wire to the IGNS line of the car"
What the hell is the IGNS line? Pretty much this is the line that automatically switches off the unit when the ignition is turned off if this helps.

Yeah well thats basically it, if anyone can help would appreciate it immensley.

Cheers

Mick

See if you can find the book that came with the stereo this may help u find the mute option, also the ings is the ingnition wire, but it's possibly best to speak with subaru, i've not fitted anything like this, but check on nokia's website, they may have some help as well.

Good Luck

The blue wire just needs to go to a wire which has 12V when you want the handsfree to be active. You could use the power to the radio for this (which is on for ACC and IGN positions)

I don't think your radio has an easy MUTE input.
I think there is one pin on the large connector for a CD changer/NAVI computer which can mute the radio, but this is untested.
The other option is to get an external mute box, which just places relays onto all of the speaker wires....

Mick,

I just had the same kit put in my 07 GT and was advised that the Mute function in the Subaru would not work with this car kit.

I have a few manuals if needed.

Cheers mate, yeah I suppose I will just not have the mute function but it does not really worry me anyways.

Thanks about the manuals, I will give it a go soon as se how far I can go. It doesn't appear to be to complex.

Out od furiosity, how much did you pay to get it installed?

Cheers

Mick

Mick,

We use the same guy for all our company cars and he charges $110.00 and does a good job. If you want the details let me know and I will PM them to you.

This is probably a silly question but - where do I find the Macs pin.#?

I was about to pull the dsh apart yesterday and realised that I do not have the PIN. I'vee looked through the owners manual but coulf not find any clues.

Thanks Ric - That would explain why I cannot find it.

Simplest way to get radio to mute off hands free kit is to connect a relay to the mute output from the carkit and use it to break the switched 12V supply to the car radio (should be able to find with a multimeter.) Alternatively try google for the pinout of the radio

There has just been a very interesting post on legacygt.com regarding connecting phone kits into our radios.

Trabbic accidentally discovered the "cell phone" audio input on the square, 8-pin connector on the rear of the factory HU (what I've been calling the "subwoofer" connector, though it also includes the wires for A/C control and steering wheel "satellite" remote buttons).

When you connect pin 3 ("TEL ON") to ground, then the HU mutes whatever audio source it was playing, the HU's display shows "CALL," and a mono audio input on pins 1 and 5 ("SIGNAL + -") is routed to the radio's front speakers.

Using pin 3 is a much cleaner and simpler way to mute the radio than simulating the mute button from the steering wheel. If you can route the audio output from your Bluetooth phone kit into pins 1 and 5, so much the better.

Note that no connections are needed to the 14-pin speaker/power connector (unless you want to tap +12V, ground, and maybe illumination from there).

The only catch is you need to find male and female square 8-pin connectors to build a plug-and-play adapter.

See this thread for more technical details (they were attempting to hack this into a stereo Aux input, but it's not very desirable because the HU mucks with the EQ and volume levels):

AUX in on a Stock '05 Head Unit w/o Silent CD (The Project)

The phone input disappeared from the connector on 2007 HUs.

Now, I just need to see if this applies to the McIntosh radios also.
They do have the 8 pin connector, and the steering wheel controls come in there, but the subwoofer connections are not there.

Hmmm, that's a very interesting post, mines not the "premium pack" that was available in '04 so I don't have the Mac.
Mine looks a little different to the one shown in the manual there, but not by much.
I'll have to pull it out one day and have a play.
