does anyone have a complete list of sizes of the speakers/subs for the Mcintosh system? for those of us wanting to upgrade it might come in handy

I didnt need to worry about the sizes etc etc, as the hi fi mob knew all of that when they re did my system.

your lucky, the idiots at my local audio shop don't know anything, they told me i cant get a fascia kit, and here i am sitting next to the one i purchased off the internet.
im upgrading the whole system, because i thought if im doing head unit and subs, i might just do the whole thing.

Fronts: 6" woofer, 4" midrange 1" tweeter and not sure on squaker size(the one in ur front door where the mirror cover is)
Rear: 6" woofer

If you are upgrading, dnt bother with rears or squaker, makes fuck all difference. Also a better 2 way split system may be better than a same priced 3 way system so you dont have to change all the spakers in the front doors.

Also, remember you don't need to replace all of the ridiculous number of speakers, you can leave some spaces empty., And you can put larger speakers than stock in the same spots with a bit of light modding.

There are heaps of posts in here about audio upgrades with pics and info that could give you some ideas.
I'm sure I've seen a few posts around with speaker sizes although an easy to find list would be nice.

THe ones near the mirror are 1" too I thought.

Plus there is the retarded centre speaker that makes the dash look terrible for no good reason.
I don't know how big that is.

A new sub for the back. Forget about using the factory sub.

But you are much better with a small box. Either a custom one or just a bought sub in a box from Ryda will sound heaps better and are pretty cheap. If you need the full boot easy to just pull out.
Alpine PDX5 seem quite popular to drive splits and sub. Hertz HDP5 is what I have.
Clarion VX401A head unit is about as good as you get for double din HU with DVD. It does everything, Bluetooth, iPod ect. Or Pioneer F30BT if you want Sat Nav. There are some Alpine units available that are pretty nice also IVA-W520EBT ect,
My advice FWIW don't buy off eBay or overseas, support your local installer. FHRX in Caringbah is the only installer I would ever use. Wagga Wagga I have no idea sorry.

ahh thanks Michael, that helps alot! and i thought the factory sub was 8"... you learn something new every day.

thats what i was hoping to do for other people aswell for future reference, and i thought they were 1" tweeters too.
plus being an owner of a prefacelift model i dont have to worry about the center dash speaker

thanks Richard, ill definitely keep that in mind. as for the subs, i was definitely going to use aftermarket. im looking/thinking about going two 12" Rockford Fosgates, and i thought if im going to spend that much on subs, i might as well spend a fark load more and do the whole system with really good equipment.

and i was looking at a 5 channel? but id rather use a 4 channel for the speakers and mono for the subs.
i have heard too that the better the head unit the better all round sound you get? if thats true, i might scrap that pioneer HU i was looking at and get either a clarion or alpine.

im not big on buying car audio off ebay, but im okay buying off reputable sites such as ryda.
as for Wagga Wagga, im not living there much longer, im moving back home

The sub is an 8". What i listed above is just front doors and rear doors.
The front doors in the mcintosh systems have 4 speaker per door. The woofer,midrange, tweeter and squaker.

Mate... if you're going to spend that sort of money, why not make it a trip to Sydney or Melbourne. A few of the country's TOP INSTALLERS are in these cities. These are the installers that will make you feel its worth every cent!! They have such high passion for audio installs and will NEVER take short cuts like other so called "PRO INSTALLER". Seriously should consider.
