does anyone know how deep the sub can be length wise? the db840 is 4inch? +30mm spacer, is that about maximum?

Eventually found some time and done mine... I'm glad I did... Here is the difference between old and new. I'm guessing the subs exposure on the back shelf to the sun played a big part in shredding it so bad! Anyway in hoping to keep the new sub a bit less exposed, I covered the underside of the grill with a chunk of foam. Hopefully shields it a bit better than just the grill

I recently put an MB Quart RPL204 in my wagon. Requires a 10mm spacer and slight trimming of the existing hole as the speaker terminals just foul on it. Sounds mint and well worth the extra work to get it to fit. Should sound even better with a separate amp

I'm the only person I know of who went with the kicker choice, just think that Polk requires too much power. Sub cost 130 delivered. I listen to my music quite loud, and I haven't heard any distortion at all yet. I'd recommend the upgrade.

What model Kicker?

Think I'll go with MM840 Polk, unless someone can advise otherwise?

Amp gain mod looks fun but tedious, my soldering iron tip is too thick....
Anyone in ACT wanna do it for me for a $50 xD

What are people paying for this bad boy? And where did you get it?

I went with this Kicker sub
http://www.amazon.com/Kicker-10C84-10C8-4-Single-Subwoofers/dp/B0035CJTNO
Added some sound deadening on the parcel shelf. Sounds much better than stock. No distortion at all. Well matched to the stock amp IMHO

Still happy with this sub? Amazon has it for $102 AUD delivered to your door.
Considering getting it, whats required to get it installed?? Fit nicely in the original location or do you have to hack the shelf?

Yes I'm happy with the sub. I had to make a spacer to get it to clear the inner workings of the boot. I used a bit of 18mm MDF and cut 1.5cm wide circle with a jig saw. Functional not pretty. Then put sound deadening between each of the layers and covered most of the parcel shelf in sound deadening material. The bass is clean and clean all the way up to about 30 on the volume with the bass set to +6.
The big difference is what happens when you turn the bass up. With the stock sub it gets all washed out and drones. With the kicker it gets punchier.

I should mention that the first week or so I was actually disappointed with this sub. It lacked volume and was almost a mid range speaker. It takes a bit of time to loosen up at first. So just remember to give it some time to wear in.

Cheers for the feedback. 1 last Q, does the OEM speaker grill fit with the 18mm spacer? and what do you mean 1.5cm wide circle. Where does the spacer go?? cheers.

The OEM grill is actually attached to the parcel shelf and does fit back over just fine yes.
I essentially cut one of these. Just not as smooth.
