The back door speakers are dual cone, so they count them as two speakers each.

I just replaced the stock sub with a SoundStream RF-8W had to put a fair old spacer in there and mat up the area as well.
The RF-8W is fine to use as a free to air sub and i think sounds great but i'm not a doof doof fan i just want it to round out the sound with nice bass.
As far as the stock amp goes is very underpowered for almost any non-stock sub.
Most aftermarket subs won't like being free to air either so make sure you do your home work on what you get.
I had to replace the stock amp, i went with a Alpine PDX-5 and that fits easily in the stock position and runs everything i wanted to throw at it.
Any questions about the install process let me know.
There is also a nice walkthrough on this forum somewhere i remember reading.

Scottiemac, they cut the crap out of it, looks more like to 12 then a 10 put it that was, cheap Boss one too, not sure what to do now. Fill in the old hole and put and 8" and see how it goes if not amp it or find a big free air and another amp to run it

I am no audio expert but I had just installed a replacement 8" DB840 after the McIntosh crumbled and rumbled for days! I was about to get someone to do it but the write up by Viper was so easy to follow that convinced me to give the install a go.
viewtopic.php?f=22&t=17131I need the boot space and didnt want to replace the amp so this was my most economical solution. In the process I picked up some Dynamat equivalent: Mongoose Mat and covered the parcel shelf 2 full layers with bits and pieces around the sub providing a 3rd layer (used 2.5 sheets all up).

Had some handy hints, it's a fairly easy install once you get those damn C pillar covers off without damaging them.

Whats the better option from the Polk's?
MM840 or the DB840?
Thought MM840 because sensitivity and marine subs are moslty designed for free air.

looking to replace my mcintosh sub, found a few viable options...will a higher sensitivity sub woofer preform better (db rating)?
most sub woofers seem to be around the 80-85db sensitivity

If you need advice or have any questions just post em up, make sure to check out the walkthrough, i think there is a link to it in the discussion some place.
There are lots of options for AMP-ed subs keep in mind that speaker depth is an issue so you'll have to fabricate some kind of spacer if you go for a large magnet sub but there is heaps of room under the parcelshelf so you can still fit the largest of 8 inch free to air subs. I think i have a 2 inch spacer in there for my Soundstream 8 inch sub and while it only clears the torshion bars by a few mill there is still a cm or or so to the speaker grill.
If your going to a beefier sub though, hitting it with some kind of sound mat is a good idea or it will buzz a bit.

Does need 10mm spacer i am yet to find...
$68 delivered to gold coast is worth the punt i reckon..... Cheap but cheerful...

Just as a follow up - I went with a kicker sub, 100w rms sub, and honestly I really don't think its that underpowered. Heaaaps better than stock. I'm the only person I know of who went with the kicker choice, just think that Polk requires too much power. Sub cost 130 delivered. I listen to my music quite loud, and I haven't heard any distortion at all yet. I'd recommend the upgrade.

I ended up removing the 10 the idiot shoved in there and running a Kenwood mono amp of the sub speaker line and have a pioneer boxed sub, happy days

The grille stays on top of the rear shelf and the rear shelf is raised (sitting on top of the spacer)...so grille does not hit the subwoofer.
