How does one get to the back of the Mcintosh headunit?

I have a Clarion EA1251 that just arrived...

Have you got your hands on the manual? I think there's a link or two on ozlib for it.. it's pretty good, has lots of bits and pieces in it. Helped me out a few times when i've been pretty dumb.

When are you doing this?
There are some pins on one connector on the back of the unit that I would very much like to see what happens if you ground them! ;)

Is it going to blow anything up?? if not - come round when I do the install, and you can have a tinker if you want.

But I want a new unit if you blow it up!!

Nahh, I'm expecting it to mute the audio, and display either "MUTE" or "CALL" on the display...

You didn't say when. I'm interstate from this Sat through to Oct-29 :(
Guaranteed, no blow up. I've been an electronic engineer for 25 years, and hardly ever destroy things 8)

Does anyone know how the control knobs come off? Track/Tune & Volume

I think they pull off but haven't had a go for fear of breaking them. I want to get them off so I can clean up the face plate that's been scratched up.

errr... i read somewhere ( i think lgt) that the mcintosh unit is low wattage, so all the speakers are set up for it.

what i'm thinking is that you MIGHT end up needing to replace them all...

might be worth doing some background b4 u pull it off.

Are you referrng to tangcla fitting his EA1251 iPod adaptor,
or ChrisGT wanting to clean his faceplate?
Either way, I don't see any problem with the speaker ratings.

I tried attacking it and broke one of the side trims... NOT HAPPY!! If someone has pictures of step-by-step how to take it off I would love you.

In a manly heterosexual kinda way.

haha no... it's just the silver side trim piece that goes up the centre console that got bent, cos I thought you remove them BEFORE the gearshift surround... boy, was I wrong!

I'm not removing the Mcintosh, just adding a Clarion EA1251 iPod controller to it :) and then I will not need to change CDs again! :D

Ah ok, sorry, haha.

I have to use an FM transmitter to connect my iPod to my stereo :(
