hey trendsetters,

im looking at upgrading the speakers in the car, i dont want to go too nuts, just something with a bit more clarity and a bit more quality. I dont want to rice it up, and have the fully sick sub woofa, the car is rice enough as it is.. and thats coming later anyway.

Just wondering if its an easy change, ie for me... Wondering if the speakers that are in the car now are the ones that are basically just plug ins... ( crossing fingers here ) and if they will run off the stock power system..

Like i said, im not going nuts, just want to be able to play my doof doof, without it sounding like my door is about to fall off...

and yes ive checked the door..

any help appreicated :)

cheers

Hi Kurt,

I went through the same dilemma with my last car and I ended up replacing all the basic factory speakers with ones from Alpine.

No drilling panels to make the new ones fit so it all looked standard and sounded better.

Just a suggestion.

Kurt,

All I did was shop around for the best price and asked them to fit.

Dont remember how much but I do remember it wasn't worth doing it
myself at that price.

Had 6 speakers replaced in under an hour.

Short answer: No, you can't just replace the speakers in the GT and have any (worthwhile) aftermarket speakers running of the '"stock power system".

I'm assuming you have a GT and the McIntosh system as you you didn't say in your post and that you'd like to change all the speakers ?

You probably don't need this info now but just in case:

All the speakers are plug connectors.

both tweetrs in the front are 1"
Midrange is 3"
Woofers are 5.25" but doors will take a 6.5" mid with ease.

Rears are 5.25" co-axials

I haven't bothered pulling the speakers out of the lib, but from my experience in previous cars, the best advise I can give is to make sure that the depth of the new speakers isn't going to interfere with the windows. I've made the mistake in the past of upgrading speakers in the door only to find that the windows don't go all the way down. not fun.

No way, it will still be a 5" to 5.5" speakers in the doors.

Thats why one should always test fit everything first and then make all the necessary adjustments before putting everything back together.

Most aftermarket speakers will be deeper than the std speakers but they should clear if you install them correctly with the right spacers (for the lazy man - repco /supercheap sell speaker mounting rings that will work).

I have 13 :D
(but they count a coaxial speaker as two...)

I think the MY07 SpecB's have 14.
