Stereos, amps, phone kits, Navi...

I think the MY07 SpecB's have 14.

And yet somehow it still sounds like shit!

Really disappointed in the McIntosh - My Alpine/Focal system in my other car is sooo much better and its only 1pr splits and a 12" sub.

I think the McIntosh needs an amp and speaker change. WTF they use 14 speakers (and dont use a sub somewhere) is beyond me - some dont even seem to have any output to speak of

It does have a sub - it's an 8" free to air on the parcel shelf.

My problem with it is that the sub isn't low-passed so it sounds muddy.

Four in each of the front doors [8]
A coaxial one in each of the back doors [4]
and a sub in the cargo area [1] (or back shelf in sedans)

I actually think it sounds great :D

Speakers

I think the 14th speaker in the GT Spec B is in the middle of the dash.

Mines a wagon and I'd hardly call the 8" driver in the back quarter panel a sub. 5mm stroke does not consitute a subwoofer (and distortion at half vol)

A pair of splits(2 way or 3 way), a sub and a decent amp is all u need for a respectable stereo system. The number of speakers in a system has nothing to do with sound quality or sound output.

Thats correct and like Garry said its the center speake on the top of the dash.

The system is very badly designed if it was their attempt at a 5.1 system in the car...

Anyway, yet again i'm ripping it out :)

Hi Mo,

I'd like to know what you plan to do as I would also like to improve the sound system. Let me know.

When are we catching up?? This weekend is good for me. I see that Idolyz is from Perth as well, Do you know him?

Hey Garry,
I'll be doing the same as with the old GT - remove the whole McIntosh system and put in my headunit, amp, 2 way components and my sub. I've already built the sub box but am waiting on a part to arrive before i can start work on the car itself.

No, i don't know him and weekends are a bit hard for me as i work both sunday and saturday...

Maybe organise a Perth meet up on the next public holiday?

errr thats my point exactly - its Subaru that flog-on about 14 speakers!

You'd think if McIntosh go for a 4 way split in the front door they'd do a decent job though
