Cheap Double DIN for McIntosh replacement

Postby ix9 » Sat Apr 16, 2011 8:44 pm

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd share my double DIN faceplate (eBay special) Not bad for $30 and sure beats the $400+ full replacement with the HVAC controls!

With a bit of fiddling with the hazard lights, it all fits pretty snug - this is a trial only - if it fails I can go get the full din system - only 30bux is no big loss.

Here's the eBay link: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Double-Din-Radio ... 500wt_1156

Hope this helps someone else!

Cheers!

I think I need some daylight pics to do it justice - for the price I'm impressed!

I agree George, in carbon fibre wrap it might look ok. But for now, the mismatched colour makes it stand out like a dogs proverbials. Good start though, will look forwrard to the final product.

Would it be easy to paint it in a similar finish to the rest of the dash? would look better than CF if it's possible.

Yeah it'll be easy to paint like the rest it's only perspex,
A coat of plastic primer and then your colour of choice. Done!

$30 is a pretty good alternative. The others NEED to look mint considering they cost $400+

Try getting it painted to match the dash and it would look great.

To TS, many thanks for sharing the information.

Too bad the link is dead now. I'm looking for a cheap solution as well. Worst case scenario I'd have to touch the top box (between the air vents).

If anyone is selling the original part, please do let me know as I'm cooled with a used unit too. Cheers 8)

Ditto! What search terms would you suggest on eBay for something like this? I had a quick go and got nothing :(

Cheers
