Has anyone got an update on if there is an aftermarket version of the iPod cable (the one that allows full functionality from HU)?

Or is there an update on any other way to hook up your iPod in this way?

I've been searching these forums and there doesn't seem to be any current up to date info on this topic.

Also wondering if anyone's had any luck downloading their contacts from iPhone via Bluetooth to the stupid McIntosh HU?

Sorry if I've missed it in another thread but I did search first. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to Bluetooth pair the iPhone as a media player to the Head unit - I haven't tried but the functionality exists... will that work for you? Stick the music on the phone?

I haven't seen an aftermarket connector for iPod integration.

I haven't imported from iPhone to the HU - I did it from a Nokia and it worked, but I have a feeling there might be an issue with the iPhone.. ?

Pretty sure you can't play music through Bluetooth on an iPhone. At least I tried last night and couldn't see how to do it.

Damn HU is depressing to say the least. Really shitty user interface too. :(

You definitely can play music over bluetooth. However, it is only able to be controlled through the iPhone/iPod.

I bought a cheap iPhone to RCA cable off eBay but again there is no functionality through the head unit. There is an Outback media hub for sale on legacygt.com at the moment.

That's interesting - I was in the manual last night (for a different reason!) and got the impression you could control the Bluetooth device from the HU...

Am trying this arvo with my mates Android so will update...

You can (albeit in a limited way) on my tests with WM7, Android and an iPhone.*

After you pair the devices, when you select "BT Audio" (or whatever) as the input source, it automatically plays the active song in the playlist. You can skip forward and back with the steering wheel controls. You can skip albums or playlists - you need to do that on the phone itself.

Remember you need to pair your phone as both:
[*] a media player through the audio settings.. i.e. select bt audio input, press the left knob and select devices or whatever and pair your phone as a media player
[*] a phone through normal settings to make calls etc.

Having it paired as a phone does not automatically make it a media player. Also, pre iOS 4 only outputs mono audio, so its fecking useless anyway.

On my Android, I've set up through Launcher Pro that it automatically turns on bt when connected to external power. When I sit in the car, I plug my phone in and it auto pairs within the first 30 seconds after the HU is turned on.

Theres an aftermarket option for less than $200, but I cant find it at the moment. Theres a company that makes a kit for every car, try googling it. You will till have issues of not being able to browse albums / playlists while in motion (but you can remedy that by doing the hack while youve got the dash off installing it)

*note- all this is from memory, in real life the labels may be different.
