Don't worry about the rear speakers, leave the stock ones in there and use the money you save to buy better front splits or some dynamat.

The new range of JL speakers are pretty good but there are much better for the money. Will you be running an amp?

What is your budget overall for audio gear?

I am willing to spend a max of 3.5k however less is always better.
What brands would you recommend for value for money keeping in mind I listen to a lot of hip hop, I want a amp but I'm confused as to which on to get.

Here is a list from the FHRX Studios website

* $3000 System Source Unit: Becker Grand Prix / Eclipse CD7200MkII
* Front Speaker: Boston SR60 / Crescendo Opus 5 / DLS MS6A / Eclipse 8365 / Focal 165KP / Hertz HSK165 / Morel Ovation 6 / Orion C2.62 / Polk MMC6500
* Amplifier: ARC Audio KS300.4 / Audison SR4 / Boston GT475 / Eclipse XA4200 / Focal FPS4.160 / Genesis Profile Ultra 4 / Zapco Reference 360.4
* Subwoofer: Boston G212 / Crescendo Etude1.10 / DLS UR12 / Eclipse SW8200 / Focal 33V1 / Hertx HX300 / Image Dynamics IDQ12 / Orion HP12
* Cable: Audison Connection / Stinger
* Battery: Odyssey PC1200MJT / Optima D35 / Stinger SPV44
* Deadening: Dynamat / Stinger

Your best bet is to go to as many specialty car audio retailers and listen to as many speakers as possible to see which sounds best to you (a specialty car audio retailer is NOT JB Hifi or Strathfield Car Radio). Are you looking at installing all the gear yourself or paying for install? If you are paying for the install as well you will probably (depending on the quality of the installer) looking at paying up around the $1000 mark. A good thing to remember in car audio is you get what you pay for. I have seen too many times mates bring their cars to me asking what is wrong with their stereos because it sounds like sh1t and it is because of the install. Install is everything! A properly installed set of $200 splits can sound better than a set of $1500/$2000 splits that aren't installed properly.

If you do go to a mainstream type of retailer (JB Hifi or the equivalent depending on what state you are in), please whatever you do, don't let them talk you into buying a capacitor. You won't need one. As long as your earths are upgraded accordingly and your wiring is adequate you can run MASSIVE amounts of power without the need for a cap.

Go to mobile electronics australia (http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au/for ... hp?act=idx) and do as much research as you can and then you can go to the FHRX Studios website and get yourself an idea of what things are going to cost. You can also save yourself a few bucks by buying second hand gear, there are a few bargains that pop up now and then on MEA.

When it comes to amps, there are a number of options you can go, but your best bet would be to keep it simple, a good 4 channel for your splits with channels 1/2 and 3/4 bridged to run your splits and a mono to run the sub/s.

Also, further to my post above, I would steer clear of brands like Kicker, MTX, Pioneer (speakers and subs however their H/Us are ok), these are very mainstream budget brands and to me, sound like SH1Tw. The guys on rexnet may have something different to say about that though lol.

Is that including installation? or are you planning to do everything yourself? One thing u gotta always remember is "Install is EVERYTHING". A $1000 system installed properly aka FHRX heheheh will sound a million times better than a $5000 system installed by a backyard kid.

Are you driving a sdedan or a wagon? Are you looking at running a sub? You say you listen to a lot of hip hop, so you will need an amp to run the speakers and definitely concentrate heavily on sealing your doors to get as much midbass as possible from your front splits. Midbass is what gives music that "punch" and as far as I'm concerned one of the most important aspects to a decent stereo.

If you are driving a wagon you will only need 1 x efficient 10" sub run off the 2 rear channels of a 4 chan amp. If you are driving a sedan I'd suggest at least a 12 powered by a moderately powerful mono with a seperate 4 chan running the front splits.

By the sounds of thing you sound very new to car audio so you'll need to do as much research as possible, listening to speakers, talking to specialist car audio stores about what you want from your stereo etc etc.

Cheers,
Garbo

Oh yeah, one more thing, don't let anyone tell you you need 6x9's they may look hectic but they are always outperformed by the equivalent priced 6.5" splits. A specialist car audio installer will almost never suggest them so if they do, you should find somewhere else.

There's not too much space to work with inside a 2dr Hilux ute or a Fiat X1/9!

Non electric windows?

If you are referring to the window winder, in between the door trim and window winder handle, there is a C clip holding it on. You need to remove the clip.

If that's not what you are referring to, then just ignore me! ;)

It is probably the hardest part of removing the door trim, I used a twist/pull type motion (I have perfected the technique since I was 13)

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.p ... 20069.html

There is also a walkthrough on this forum somewhere from memory.
