Rear Parcel Subwoofer

Postby haomap » Wed Dec 22, 2010 6:17 pm

Anyone know if Subaru will install a rear parcel subwoofer for a 2007 2.5i Liberty, if so how much would i be looking at?

The speakers have good clarity and sound but no bass what so ever.
Cheers.

Probably gonna cost you an arm and a leg through Subaru. Also the headunit will not be enough to power the sub that they put in, so they will try and sell you a crappy amp too.

Do what i did, buy a 8" sub (such as the Vibe Space8 or a Kenwood 8" Shallow mount or a Pioneer 8" shallow mount) pair it with an amp, and have good bass. Only problem will be that you wont be able to cut the bass from the door speakers so that will let you down at higher volumes.

have a look here.

There is a REALLY easy way around this, passive crossover...

http://www.bcae1.com/passxovr.htm

You can buy the capacitors/inductors needed from jaycar electronics and then just solder them into place as is, usually this system will give you -6dB/octave roll off... you can use a cap and inductor at the same time to create a bandpass (only allows freq at a specific range through) as well or you can just get aftermarket speakers with their own crossover like I did and then add a highpass filter to the input to stop all bass feq comming through... Hope this helps

P.S. I recommend setting around 80Hz - 100Hz as a crossover point. Most subs don't like going over 80, most 6.5" woofers don't like going under. Also keep in mind that you will get a 3db Spike at the crossover point, a way to avoid this is to set your crossover points slightly different (roll your speakers off at 85hz and your sub off at 75hz) or if your like me and happen to like that freq being boosted a bit, just set both at 80. Also remember to use parts rated at the power level your running.

Where do you live? your best bet is to look into some specialist car audio installers in your city. The Mobile Electronics Australia forum will give you some good knowledge on the ins and outs on car audio. As solongaudio mentioned aftermarket speakers will help and then you can look into upgrading the head unit installing amps.
