Hey guys,
Just trying to install an aftermarket amp into the car.
I'm trying and trying and have been trying for the last hour to get the wire through the firewall (through the grommet pretty much behind the intercooler right hand side) but can't get it to drop down into the passenger footwell.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Brad

Hi Brad,
When I installed my subdoofer I used a hook made out of a coat hanger and gently tugged on anything I caught and had a mate holding the wire that was pushed through the firewall and he told me when he could feel the coat hanger touching it and eventually we found it (after about 5 minutes) and all was good.
As to your original question I am not sure but I imagine that you would need to run it off the battery for it to get the necessary power?
Cheers,
Michael.

Alternatively you could tape the wire to your coat hanger and poke it through and down....
Good luck

Michael.

Another question...
I've had success in getting the wire to the boot now.
Took a while, but eventually did it.
I've wired up the amp, but I'm wondering how I go about getting my alpine amp to power on (using the remote amp wire).
Can I splice into the din plug going into the macintosh amp, and splice into the red wire (which is the remote amp power from the headunit) to switch on the power to the alpine heda unit???
I've used a line level converter to convert the current subwoofer speaker wires into RCA's so I can plug them into the alpine amp.
Is there anything else I need to do to get my aftermarket amp sub to work?
Cheers

I used the cigarette lighter power to turn my amp on. Its a switched 12V source.

Thanks for that.Appreciate it.
I'll give it a shot during the week.
So you just spliced in behind the ciggy lighter?

Yep. I used the wire that is supplying 12V to the cigarette lighter socket. Works fine, only thing is that the amp doesnt turn off when i switch off the factory headunit.
