You would require it to be some sort of dock though correct? Currently the OGB-Y cable plugs into the back of the tablet, so you would need to consider what to do there.

To be honest, it's very quick to get the tablet out, but it's a little fiddly getting the fascia back in with the design of the vent ducts.

I think i saw something a while ago in a mustang with a custom fibreglass docking section so you could dock your iPad in the dash which looked stock, and then you could just leave the car and take the iPad with you.

Yeah, various options. Either it could (1) sit in a dock with pogo pins (Nexus 7 1st gen); or (2) in the Qi wireless charging dock (2nd gen) + bluetooth; or (3) in a custom-made bracket with the OTG plug in the micro USB port.
I'd go for option 2 as I have the 2nd gen 2013 Nexus

maybe, but I can't see it being practical to do everyday/few times per week. I reckon more than 20 times and it might snap!

Yep, as did I - very cool. It's such a shame no one is producing universal Android car docks. I guess the main problem (apart from dash design) is that each tablet has charging points in different spots.
someone did do an iPad one for an Impreza/WRX though:

Further to my previous idea, if the wall between the tablet surround and the vent could be laser cut, the vents could remain fixed?

Pogo pins don't support OTG or audio.

I like that idea.. Although my tablet is fixed to the fascia and not to the sat nav bracket so would need to change that I guess.

FYI - information on a bezel to fill the gap. Well worth it, I bought Michael's spare one off him and glad I did, cleans it up so much.

They do support audio via a 3.5mm audio jack on the dock, but not sure about OTG (it's possible, in theory, since the dock has micro USB charging)

What gap - between the JDM fasia and tablet - I assumed it would be flush?
Got a pic?

There is a slight gap at each end of the tablet as the opening is slightly bigger than the length of the Nexus. You can see the silver trim too.

Make the bezel, paint it satin black and done!

I'm going to assume you have an MY04, not an MY03 if you're after this part..

Select Rev A-C for Gen 4 pre facelift.

Hi Guys,

So far so good. I've managed to order all parts. Rooted and installed Timurs ROM on the nexus. But....

What the hell do i do with the DCDC USB minibox... I am not really clear from reading the manual on what 'jumpers' are and where to wire/solder? Clearly not too good with 12v electrical stuff ;)

Can someone point me in the right direction...

Cheers,

Pix

Get a USB extension cable of decent wire gauge and chop it, keeping the female end and about 15cm of cable. Strip back the tiny wires inside the cable and solder one of the black wires from DCDC-USB output end to the black wire in the USB cable. Then take one of the yellow wires from the DCDC-USB output end and solder to the red wire in the USB cable. Be sure to insulate everything afterwards.

The jumpers are the little plastic-with-metal-inserts bridges that came with the DCDC-USB in a little snap-lock bag. Use jumpers to setup the DCDC-USB to be both in Automotive mode and 5v output mode. This means you need a jumper on pin pair 5 and a jumper on pin pair 7. Don't just read my instructions though, download the manual, read it and understand how the DCDC-USB works now that you know what jumpers are, and is configured. Don't fuck this bit up. Wrong voltage will kill things.

Connect the black wire on the DCDC-USB input end to a good source of earth behind the dash. Connect the red wire on the DCDC-USB input end to constant 12v. Connect the white wire on the DCDC-USB input end to switched ignition 12v source.

apparently Timur has restarted dev on a n7 2013 kernel preforming the same tasks as usbrom,
beta is available for purchase (donation) or release is scheduled for may.

good timing for me as i believe i have wrecked my usb charging flex cable during teardown/storage, i have to charge by wiring directly into the battery :(
ebayed a new one, but i might get a 2013 nexus anyway..... because shiny 8)

have you checked amperage on that with a multimeter?
