cheers for the heads up. going to pass on it; scratches on lcd screens make me sad.

stupidly, the stock hu decided to start working again. i think it got scared when i dropped by the car audio guys yesterday afternoon lol. just in case, i picked up a fascia from castek. now to find a suitable hu. kenwoods have really nice, clean gui designs. pioneer comes a close second.

I'd be the same about the scratches!! Kenwood or Pioneer including tue navigation module is going to cost an arm and a leg. Double din fascia??

yeah, it is pretty expensive. might just get a good hu and survive with a separate nav unit. that way i can just buy a new one when the maps get too old, instead of buying map updates. i have seen threads offering map updates around, just none for pioneer or kenwood. at the moment, budget and gui are the most important things for me and i found the pioneers and kenwoods to have the best guis. nice big buttons and dials are win. and yeah, a double din fascia =D

not sure if any place would sell an exact shield for any hu, but you should be able to pick up similar things for larger screens. maybe buy one designed for an ipad or tablet and cut it down to size? the hardest part will be getting it to sit perfectly given that the screens are mostly recessed in a fair bit, and not flush or recessed a little bit like phones and tablets. get what i mean?

Trying to apply one of those things to a HU screen would be a nightmare!! Before you install it, take the HU to a mobile phone repairs place & see if they can apply one for you - one thing I couldn't stand is the air bubbles that get under them. I find the screen is pretty hardy, and god only knows how that seller got a scratch on his. Just take care... Then there won't be aproblem.

My main reason for wanting the double din unit is for inbuilt navigation - but if you're looking more at budget and GUI then just get a better multimedia unit... Buy one that is navigation ready, that way when you can afford it you can buy the nav unit seperately

haha yeah i was thinking that, right up until i saw the prices for the nav add-ons. nearly more than some of the hus themselves. pioneer was like $760 for the nav stuff. pricey as...
