Thanks for this confirmation. I would have got this one if I had an iphone.

also can anyone recommend an installer in SA that will fit these units neatly?

Great! Thanks for the info :D

I assume you posted this after you installed and therefore didn't have the full model number of the headunit?
It's on the bottom of the radio, so can only be seen when the unit is removed from the dash.

I'll pull mine out over the weekend and get the model number as it's only a 10 minute job.

Maybe it will match up with one that works??

Hi,

We working on something for the later model Subaru models at present.
We have found some later model McIntosh radio's have the black larger changer port (that the Kenwood models use) as well as the square Clarion changer port.

This opens up the possibility of using a Grom device.
We are going to be testing this sometime next week when we get our hands on a newer Subaru radio.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks,

Matt

Car Make/Model/Year: Subaru Liberty GT MY07
Headunit Make/Model: Mcintosh pf28241
Anycar Model: Anycar Link 1080B
Works: Yes. Also streams music from phone.
Change Track from Headunit: Yes
Change Track from Steering Controls: Yes
Devices Tested: usb, Samsung galaxy s2

Sound is Crystal clear when phone plugged in aux cable. As well as via bluetooth option. Will only play 6 folders from usb and folders controlled via normal 1-6 disc numbers. Bluetooth hands free works when on phone but volume needs to be increased and phone needs to be away from head unit to avoid phone static. Call quality is a bit grainy but can understand conversations.

Overall the install was done fast by a professional installer. Installer very impressed with unit size and sq. I found the music from phone was excellent and made stereo come alive.

Apart from phone call quality I give the unit a solid 8/10. Worth doing.
Cheers

EDIT: 12/12/12 pics of the finished install in the glove box. Apologies for the lateness of the pics. Plus some additional feedback of the unit itself for others reference.

Image

The anycar unit was double sided velcro fitted in the small detachable compartment in the glove box. The compartment was slightly modified to accept the wiring from the anycar unit. As you can see, the USB sticks out a bit but it does not interfere with the closing action of the glove box. The bluetooth range is not altered or in any way reduced when the unit is in the glovebox either. The AUX wire can either go thru the rear of the compartment or around like I have it. Personal choice as I didnt want more holes in the glove box I chose around the unit. Again, did not interfere with the closing action of the glove box.

Some things to be aware of. When using a USB and playing music thru it as well as bluetooth to your phone is activated, if you are navigating thru your phone at the same time music is being played thru usb, the music will be interrupted for about 3-4 seconds before it resumes. This mainly happens when I unlock the phone, or am in a high power usage app or putting the phone in standby mode (screen off). I am unsure if this is a Samsung SGS2 issue or standard fare with all phones. This does not happen when music is streaming from the phone via bluetooth. The music actually sounds better when its streaming as you can alter the equaliser of your phone music and improve the SQ. The AUX cable can also be used with the Samsung SGS2 phones too. SQ is supposedly improved again, so my installer told me. (he is a sound engineer by trade) Remember when streaming bluetooth music that you ensure your phone volume is high before you play.

I have not tried the SD card slot yet.

BT streaming does not display on the McIntosh head unit. USB music is only displayed in a similar fashion as a external CD changer unit on the head unit face. No ID3 tags.

I had the unit professionally installed due to lack of time. With the installer taking his time, he installed it within 45mins.

Other than these things, I still believe the unit is great value and gets around not having the latest stuff up to date cars have. If I had to ask for one thing, it would be the ID3 tags for the music to be displayed on the HU face.

Hope this info helps.
Cheers
