Must be an issue with the hard drive. I could not get around this problem. I have a temporary solution in a 64GB thumb drive. Its plenty for in-car music and loads without fail unlike the hard drive.
Also wanted to post some additional information someone may find useful. As much as I love Android, I am heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem. My music, for example, is completely managed using iTunes. I came across this application (free version does the job for me) called doubleTwist that can read my itunes playlists. I simply drag n dropped them onto the USB drive (something iTunes wont allow) from within this app, making my music management very easy. I read that they have an Android app as well, but haven't looked at it as I don't need it. And the paid version says it can sync wirelessly.
