That was why I was impressed with Marty as he said that as long as I stay with a 4ohm sub, I won't need an amp.

(i.e. he wasn't overselling just to make extra $$$)

I got a rough estimate of around $500 for a new 4 ohm free air 8 inch, spacer to fit the 8 inch into the 7.5 inch hole and I also wanted Dynamatting to the metal shelf and shelf cover (that has the speaker grille in it). Basically, I didn't want it to look any different to it does now.

For $500, that would have been a decent amount of work so the price seemed pretty good.
Now that I'm in North America, I'm greatly concerned about raised pick-up trucks and owners of wedge shaped vehicles. Seriously, not only do you have to be concerned about one hitting you in an accident, they stand a good chance of driving over you at the same time!

Thats a pretty decent price. I know that my sub cost me $225 delivered, its a free air and it was recommended my Marty and Phil (garbo41610). I think the price has now gone up to $250. Then add the dynamat onto that ($100-200 depending on how much he uses) plus fitting. $500 is a damn fair price.

Heres a link to my install thread (mind you I didn't have the mcintosh sound system, but yea. Have not updated it, but the sub now has a better mounting and new front speakers). viewtopic.php?f=22&t=8359

Ok so I've contacted Marty from FHRX...

I've asked him to quote me on a fascia kit, and installation of the following things that I already own.

- Single DIN head unit
- Subwoofer (in box)
- amp

Guess how much?

........ $1400!!!!

Is this guy for real??? I almost had a coronary!
The fascia kit on this website (http://www.avojdm.com/product_info.php? ... b78bac7e6a) is only $369.00 (plus shipping), and he's charging me over $600 just for that!

I'm not looking for an autosalon entry, using the best possible quality leads/connectors, I'm just after someone who can install all this gear using mid-range components for a mid-range price.
I previously had all this gear in my last car (Toyota Celica) and all the items, plus installation cost me $750... And the sound quality was the envy of anyone who listened to it!

Am I being unreasonable? There HAS to be someone out there who knows what they're doing and isn't going to rip me off.

Any ideas?

no need to have a coronary mate!!

just source all the gear yourself if you think you can find it cheaper...which you most likely can cos they'll be selling at retail price with maybe a little discount and then take it to whichever audio shop to get it installed.

coronary avoided :D

That's the thing. I already own all the gear, except for the fascia kit, and he's charging me $1400!! that's twice what all the gear is worth!

Hmm, it sounds quite high just for the fascia kit and installation. The only thing I can suggest is that you buy the fascia kit yourself (from japanparts.com, or speak to PHAT GT forumparts@gmail.com). Its definately gonna cost more if he gets it in for you.

Also, do you have wiring for the amp and sub? If you don't then he will prob be including a 4gauge wiring kit in the install price.

Finally, he might also be including time to tune the sound system. Most installers don't do this, they just wire it all up and hand it off and then its up to you to set your bass level, fader, time correction, EQ's etc (if you have some of the features).

Maybe have another talk to him and get an exact breakdown of what he is doing. And what each component is costing. I highly doubt he is gonna charge $500+ just for installation.

I've tried looking in japanparts.com but I couldn't find it. Are you able to provide a link?

Corvus, he did provide a link!

Email forumparts@gmail.com and ask Michael (PHAT GT) for a price on the fascia!
You will be hard pressed to find it cheaper from anywhere else.

Heres the link.

The pic looks different, but I think that in your case you would select "#02SC A-C Silver" or "#08SC A-C Black" in the drop down box. On Japan parts its currently $380 plus postage.

Hi guys, I'm in the same situation I've got a 2004 liberty GT.. Trying to find a Double din as cheap as I can... I'm new to this forum and if anyone could please help me source something cheap I would appreciate it so much! eBay has given me prices of 500.. And I seen the above one for 310 is there anything else out there...Which seems insane, considering the part itself probably cost 20$ to manufacture..
Thanks all.

$400 is the going rate for brand new from a few different suppliers (garage88, avojdm, etc)

Can obviously find cheaper second hand, normally $300-$350 but then you're playing the waiting game
