subaru replaced my head unit and nothing changed.<snip>

Ever consider that it's not the HU creating the hiss?

My '07 has that hiss and I'm going through components one by one in an effort to remove it. I honestly think the culprit will be:
1. Pathetic x-over network in the front stage (a bunch of capacitors)
2. Random/unknown EQ network in the amp (3 channels go in, 6 channels come out!)
3. Dirty power and earth connections (back to the HU and then into the loom)
4. Poor wiring for the speakers from the amp.

Will be working through these shortly and have already put a lot of the wiring in place, just figuring out if I replace the amp first or bare with the factory McIntosh amp first or just go get a JL 4ch 3/400W amp and a separate 500W sub amp :-)
