8650 if you're an iPhone user as it will support Carplay in the near future.

Yes iPhone play.

After my research the Pioneer 8650 retails for $1,128 at JB HiFi. Online through eBay cheapest I have found it was for $899 but it's a grey import and warranty doesn't apply in Australia.

After spending some time at JB, I was tapped on the shoulder and I saw an old friend working at the store. Let's just say I obtained this head unit at cost price as they purchased it as STAFF. I can't believe how much money and mark up these prices are.
Shocked on how much I saved.

That's cool 8)

Anyone know how to mount a sub amp under eg the drivers seat?
How is an aftermarket HU connected to the factory speakers?

Have you tried Velcro? Know they can also be screwed down but never tried this method myself.

Generally through a wiring harness like an aerpro.

I had my 2 PDX amps sitting there. One under each seat. No velcro or screws to hold them down. There is a slight recess in the floor and they sat in that perfectly.

In terms of wiring the factory speakers to a HU, you can either run new wires from each door to the aftermarket HU or run wires from the stock amp location to the new HU. This is only if you have the McIntosh system to begin with.

Otherwise using the aerpro harness will do the job.

If running aftermarket HU and amp then RCA cables from HU to amp and then speaker wire from amp to speakers or can tap into existing speaker wires. I prefer to run new wires as its easy and get a bit more current (not usually needed of coarse but I lime to go over the top) a bit of wd40 to help it slide through the rubber grommet and easy done

Double Din finally arrived

Postby THERB3 » Wed Nov 05, 2014 4:14 pm

Stereo finally arrived and I am excited on how cheap I obtained it.
Model is Pioneer AVH-X8650BT
Retail price is $1128 at JB and I obtained it for $690 on staff discount from a friend.

Can't wait to install and have a little bit of music play away from the macintosh system.

Its amazing what a difference an aftermarket headunit can make. I just installed a Pioneer DEX-P99RS in my F6 and completely bypassed the factory system. Even on just factory front speakers and sub it sounds a million times better! And the factory speakers are only rated at 28W !
