Speaker install

hey guys i have a Gen3 MY02 liberty and i want to replace the back speakers i have some polk audio 6 1/2 speakers and unfortunately the holes for the speakers dont line up with the holes in the door could someone suggest a good way to make it work? i was thinking of making my own mdf bracket im not sure if that would work? im trying to avoid drilling new holes in the door thanks any help is much appreciated

mdf spacer will act as an adapter, but if it were me i'd sent the speakers back for a refund and not bother with rears.

Those are some large rear speakers, 6" is plenty for the rear. As zch91 said mdf spacers would work although it'd be easier to just take them back and get some that do fit properly.

thanks guys I wish I could take them back but unfortunately I can't which is why I'm trying to sort something out I might try to make some spacers or try and sell the speakers haha

Good luck finding any speaker that will bolt straight up to the factory subaru holes without the need for a spacer.

I dont mind using spacers I just don't want to drill holes in the door

I can't speak for the liberties, but I didn't have too many problems with my 99 or 05 impreza

All you need to do is measure it up for depth, to make sure you clear the window coming down. Making sure you seal the mdf baffle to avoid water damage. Screw the baffle to the door using the factory holes and screw the new speaker to the baffle.

Use some silicon to seal the baffle to the door and bobs your uncle.

Spend the money you would of spent on the rear speakers in upgrading the front stage/amp.

a chain is only as strong as its weakest link to have a good speaker set up you need 4 goof speakers that would be like having surround sound but only having 2 speakers instead of all of them that's pretty stupid really :/

Not really, no. A lot (if not most) of high quality car audio SQ orientated installs only focus on the front stage, as well as sub bass etc obviously. If they do install rear speakers, they are generally faded out so no sound is coming out of them when they are the only person in the car and when they have passengers in the rear, they fade them back in slightly.

The reason being, the rear stage has a tendency to "pull" the staging of the sound too far to the rear, so when you are listening to music it sounds like the music is coming from slightly behind you. Where do you stand at a concert? Facing the stage. Hence, you need a similar set up in your car. Surround sound is mainly for movies etc.
