Alpine Media Receiver installed / McIntosh for sale

Postby Talkiet » Sun Aug 16, 2009 3:32 pm

HI all - after quite some agonising, I got a decent bonus from work this year so decided I would install a more iPod friendly head unit than the otherwise wonderful McIntosh 6cd / minidisc player that came in the car.

I bought a double DIN panel a while ago for a decent price, and then a couple of weeks ago found ANOTHER one at the same price ($300 NZD) so grabbed that as well...

The Alpine unit is an iDA-X305 and I bought it from Aussie actually since Alpine NZ don't plan to bring them in until they have sold the older stock they have. (The models that don't work well with iPhone 3Gs models!)

As an aside, I can confirm that the iDA-X305 works just fine with the iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 3G with OS3, and iPod touch v2 with OS3. Charges them all and no messages about unsupported accessory at all. Works just as advertised.

The install was simple. I initially decided to drive the F+R from the headunit only and see if I missed the sub. I did, so I bought a small Pioneer amp (GM3300T) and used that just for the sub. The resulting sound is probably only as good as the McIntosh, but I simply don't use CDs anymore.

Here's the obligatory pic of the new unit... Unfortunately my double din panel is the wrong colour but it doesn't look anywhere near as objectionable as I feared, so I will leave it for now. As I mentioned I actually have a spare double din panel so I will probably get that professionally painted to match the black and switch the panels out at some stage.

As a result of the upgrade I have a full 6cd McIntosh system for sale now... I am waiting for approval for the sellers group as I thought I would try here before a local auction site. Included is the head unit, fascia, umbilical cable, plugs for amp and head unit, band expander (It's a Japanese unit), and 2 unknown burnt CDs in the unit that I forgot to eject before I uplugged it. I think they are Pink Floyd :-)

I will probably also include a line in/iPod adaptor for the McIntosh as well - although someone may want it separately.

Pics of all the stuff is available at:

i might be interested if i could get some funds together. Would you be interested in maybe changing to an all silver center console by swapping the black for the silver? Also what kind of $$ would ya be after for the lot?

cheers

Hi Dan - I just posted in the BuySell section after getting approved... the post is here:

I am probably going to go for painting the fascia black to match the existing stuff. I mocked it up in photoshop and I think black looks better...
