Anyone wanna swap Silver AV Panel Set for a Black one?

Postby adhar » Thu Jun 18, 2009 2:09 pm

Hi guys,

I have just received delivery of a double DIN AV Panel set for Pre-facelift model from Japanparts.com in Silver.

I was hoping for a black one but Silver turned up. Do they exist in Black?

I thought i'd ask that if there is anyone who has the same set in Black and would like to swap for a Silver/Grey one?

Cheers,

Andrew

Someone here had a black one for sale but not sure if that would solve your problem entirely. Perhaps you could sell your silver one and buy the black one hehe.

If you had of posted 3 days earlier I would not have ordered my silver one from Japanparts and would just have bought your one!

I would be willing to take it off your hands if you want to sell it.

Appreciate the offer but i'll hold onto it if i can't get a black one. I'm just being fussy about the looks as the plastic panel from ashtry backwardsis black and the av panel in silver. I think it'll look funny but i might get used to it! :D

I even specified black in the 'extra comments' part when i ordered but that didn't seem to work! Maybe that only have silver these days...

I've got plenty of time until i do the audio install, i'm just accumulating bits and bits as i can afford them.

Yeah I PM'd Cyrus about that one before he posted in the For Sale section, but alas, its a post-facelift one.

I want to get the Pioneer AVIC-F900BT HU I can get it for $1700 with reverse camera, but i was thinking of getting some 3 ways and another amp for my sub (maybe another sub) so might be able to reduce price a bit more if i buy all that.

I already have speakers and amp from my old car, but i might sell them to a mate and buy better ones, i really want MB Quart 3 ways and a good quality amp like Rockford or something, they sound mint.

When ordering from Japanparts and you aren't sure of the colour def email them first and the support team can often send you a photo of the exact part and variant. If it's the wrong one they can give you the specific variant you will need to order.

Simply specifying in the comments that you want a black one is often overlooked by their packing warehouse if you have ordered a part variant that only comes in silver for example.

They did send me a picture first to confirm, and it was a pic of a black one. Oh well, you win some you lose some. :D

When I was looking around for a double DIN HU earlier this year, I have to say that the Pioneer AVIC-F900BT was the 1st one that came to mind. I liked it's
overall looks, the fact it has GPS, no motorised front panel, plays most formats and bluetooth. Just as well I knew of a good car stereo place that would allow me to spend a couple of hours with playing with their demo unit. It didn' take long to realise that this unit has way too many flaws. The things that really put me off buying this unit are ->
1) Bluetooth is very flakey - has many and varied issues trying to pair up with almost any type/brand of smartphone that has bluetooth ( I tried pairing up my Palm centro on 4 different AVICs at 4 differnt Pioneer dealers, with different versions of firmware updates on the AVIC and they all failed, but with different issues - ranging from refusing to pair up at all, not even finding my device to pairing with errors and then working once and stops working, to locking up the AVIC to the degree that the HU had to be factory reset or rebooted.
2) The AVIC doesn't have an OFF button and is always kind of in standby but on mode.
3) Even with the latest firmware revision, the HU takes over 20 seconds to boot up and this boot time varied from unit to unit that I tested
4) GPS is proprietry, meaning that mapping updates wouldn't be as easy to obtain as other units that may use GARMIN type maps, TOM TOM or WhereIS

I really like Pioneer equipment and have a lot of their home AV stuff that works brilliantly, so I'm not one of those brand haters, but I have to say that I was
really disappointed to discover all these failings of the AVIC as my heart was really set on getting it when it first become available in Oz. It's been 6 months since this model was released and I even went back to the Pioneer dealer recently to see if they have resolved some of these issues, but it seems not.

Through personal first hand experience, I can happily recommend the Kenwood and Eclipse double DIN models that also have these features that the AVIC comes with.

Maybe some of the issues I've highlighted may not be of concern to others, but at the very least go along to a place where they have a demo unit installed on a board and test that everything you need to work reliably for does in fact work for you and ensure the place you purchase from has good after sales support.

Cheers,
Lok

Thanks for the advice Lok, you sound as though you know your stuff.

I actually had a read through of one of your older posts commenting on some of the flaws of the pioneer unit.
I don't have a smartphone so bluetooth will be fine (haven't tested it yet though!)
I mainly like the looks, and the functionality of the interface. For me i rarely use GPS (i probably don't really need that function as i have a tomtom) but i think it would be nice to have the function in built into the car, so the GPS is a secondary thing for me.

I like the Eclipse AVN726EA too, but i prefer a volume knob to turn rather than buttons. There is another Eclipse unit with the removable Tomtom screen which has a turning volume, but i'm not really sold on that.

Its gonna be a couple of months before i can afford to buy the unit so that will give me time to do some research and testing.

Actually, thats a good idea i hadn't thought of that. If it was ALL silver that would look good.
I'd want to hold onto all my dash parts so i could bring it back to standard when i sell the car, otherwise i'd be up for the swapsy!
