No special steps (should be just burning a data DVD if you're using another application).
I then put the DVD into the nav slot, the system rebooted and it's been working ever since.

thanks bro, i used imgburn software and did it, no issue after insert the dvd and hope its last forever lol

Didn't work for me :( I used ImgBurn twice, the second time trying to burn at 1x (although not sure it actually did this because it didn't take as long as I would expect). The disc wasn't recognised on either occasion. The file structure on the disc looks fine on the PC, but isn't recognised by the car.

Any suggestions on why it isn't working would be appreciated.

Which disc did you use? +R or -R?

Based on previous comments, and the disc that was in it with V21, I used -R. I was thinking of trying a +R but assume that will just waste another disc.

Confirmed working in my 2011 Outback (McIntosh) SatNav.

Once you have successfully downloaded the .rar file, use 7-Zip to extract the .iso file (you will need the password). Once the .iso file is extracted, right-click it and select 'Burn disc image' to use the native Windows 10 disc burning engine. I used a Verbatim DVD+R, and no issues reading it in the car.

Thanks for the encouragement. I extracted the rar file again, updated to the latest (still pretty old) version of ImgBurn (because my Windows 7 doesn't seem to have a native image burning option) and tried a +R disc.

It worked ! :)

so I tried updating with the MMCS maps posted earlier but haven't had any luck getting it to work. the unit looks like it's updated as shown below however it did not reboot when putting in the disc. in addition, the maps are completely scrambled with the new disc in the drive so obviously something has gone wrong.

any suggestions? used a -R disc this time which people have had success with, but so have people who have tried a +R disc.

Just picked up a Liberty GT 2010 the other day and noticed the maps have never been updated so thank you to everyone who posted it. Hopefully the new edition is out soon as there's been some major works done on the freeways near me.

Cheers again!

If the Gen5s are like the Gen4s, then you need the original Disc, because that contains the Software and Menus etc (which is lost after a battery disconnect). Then you can get a C2 Map update Disc (C1 won't work, as that's an older version for Gen4s).

Someone shared their original C1 Disc here, but that won't help you. You could borrow someone's C2 Disc for a minute, if you know someone that's near you.

There's a C2 on page 7 of this thread which is what I used. I didn't do any battery disconnect or anything - just burnt the iso and chucked in the map drive and it rebooted and the version was updated :)

I'd happily chip in for a newer version when it's released too.
