HELP!!! MY06 - Upgrading to GT sounds system

Postby Nemo1234567 » Sat Jan 18, 2014 1:41 pm

Hi guys,

Trying to install my new (old) system from a GT (McIntosh) into my MY06 and really struggling....

1. Does the head unit just plug and play or do I need to run extra cables etc?
I know the amp cable I will have to run under the seat and mount the amp (Mcintosh)
Are all the wiring harnesses there??!? Will the airbag deploy if I disconnect those cables??

2. Does anyone know anyone who can help install etc in Sydney? I have a SatNav aswell I'm trying to install but I'm gunna struggle!!!

I'm new to subaru and this forum so no idea if this is what I can ask here etc...

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advanced
Mick

Why bother? McIntosh sounds sh!t IMO. Way better off going aftermarket. More $ but at least you'll get some decent SQ.

You'll need to re-wire ALL your speakers back to under your passenger seat. Are you going to be installing the Sub in the parcel shelf too?

And then try and get some power source under there too, that's in addition to the DIN cable which you seem to have.

See page 122 of this document - RHD WITH MCINTOSH (Page 126 of the PDF)

Yeh I've heard that! I'll just keep the head unit then and run different door speakers and a little amp and sub (aftermakert)

Are there any posts for people going from the stock deck to McIntosh? It's from the same model liberty GT but seems like there are not the same wires etc to plug and play. So need help with this!

Have you changed yours? Any advice brands for speakers?

Also anyone in Sydney good with thus stuff? Happy to pay for their services!

You can't keep the McIntosh headunit and run the speakers from it. It has no built in amplifier.

You can either keep the original headunit that came with your current car, or replace it with an aftermarket head unit.

And there are no threads for people replacing the Kenwood headunit with the McIntosh headunit as its not worth the time or effort to do it.

If you want something installed professionally, head down to FHRX Studios. Best installers in Sydney.

Ahhhh shit....... So the no built in amp means the amp under the seat does everything? Doesn't make sense how it plays music of the stock head unit?

I like the look of the McIntosh.... But not if it's gunna cause me that much of a problem!,, should have posted something before I bought everything....

So does anyone know then if the satnav can connect to the original deck etc... Or again... Is this not worth it?

Appreciate the help and advice fellas!

Cheers

To put it basically - All the HU does is receive signal from CD's and radio, it then sends that signal down the DIN cable to the Amp, which then sends the signal to the speakers to make NOISE :P

The Sat-Nav should be able to be fitted without the stock HU, but how exactly I couldn't tell you.

Depending how deep your pockets are, you could kill 2 birds with 1 stone and get a new HU for better SQ (coupled with an Amp), and make sure said HU includes built-in GPS/nav. Win Win 8)

Haha well after today... My pockets have holes!!!! Cost me a fortune. I like the stock look of everything that came from factory. But I'm gunna take it all back and hope the wrecker does a refund. He said he would.....

Thank so much for the advice! Good to have people stopping me from stuffing up too much!!! Will look into an aftermarket system with the full gps etc built in.
