Purchasing a subwoofer, what's my best option?

Postby Dreww » Thu Dec 05, 2013 8:45 am

So recently I have upgraded the headunit and front door speakers in my Gen 4 Liberty, I was looking at purchasing a sub and amp but, as I have never owned one before, wasn't sure what the output is like. I might not be making myself too clear, but basically I don't to purchase a 1000W amp and sub only to find it drowns out any sound from the cabin speakers. I have installed Polk db6501's in the front doors, and the headunit gives 50W to each door. Any suggestions on amp/sub possibilities that might go well with what's already installed? Thanks in advance!

If tuned properly I don't think a sub will drown out the splits.

I'm running a focal 3way system in place of our 5000-way subaru splits and a focal coaxial for the rear and focal 12" sub powered by a 5 channel alpine. 5-1100 or something, can't remember now. Sounds good without going nuts.

Depends on what you want to achieve and how particular you are, personal preferences too. And also sealed vs ported etc.

Budget?

I was looking at around $500 for a mono amp and sub, but I'm fine spending a bit more if it's worth it. What would be best?
