Fascia for Post Facelift Spec B's

Postby peadya100 » Mon Nov 18, 2013 9:01 am

Hey guys,
has anyone out there upgraded the headunit in a post facelift McIntosh system? If so, do you have a photo of it installed?
I did the double din fascia in my pre facelift, but havent seen one in gloss black for the post facelift spec B's.
I dont really want to lose the gloss black if i can help it, love that look.

If theyre available, is PHAT still the best person to source these?

Ok, now follow up question... how much would a panel beater/spray painter charge to spray a fascia gloss black?

Interested in this actually, my current Fascia with the Tbsti has a transparent finish over the top making it glossy. Not sure if normal GT's are like this but it looks a hell of a lot nicer than the replacement Fascia's i've been looking at.

Are you talking about the finish on the standard head unit Tom, or have you got a different type of fascia?

Im definitely not keen to put the matt dark grey fascia in my car, so i think ill just get mine sprayed gloss black with a few coats of clear??

I dont know anything about wraps, but can you get a gloss black wrap? I know it wouldnt be as glossy as the mcintosh, but it might still be nicer than the matt plastic.

Ok, did some research on vinyl wraps... you can get a gloss black wrap that judging by the pictures on the website, should look pretty close to the Mcintosh gloss black. I think vinyl will give a better result around the climate control buttons than paint would have.

So im ordering it and will be the test pilot for anyone else who was thinking about it. I will put some photos up of the finished product when it all arrives. :D

Wasn't sure if the standard GT's were the same as mine. I haven't seen any others

Definitely chuck up some photos, my controls have a silver finish as well, would love to get a fascia with the same.

Yeah your standard head unit is the same as spec b's. You might be able to swap the controls over to the new fascia, but Im not certain on that. I prefer the metal finish controls too.

they other option is to take a spray can to it - there's lots of guides on the youtube for perfecting this (and in my experience it's not hard to get perfect)

Hello chubbs. Did the facia come with the dual HVAC? If so, I imagine the connections on the back of it plugged right back into the original harness?

I'm curious because my recently acquired JDM 2.0GT MY08 has a Kenwood stereo - and there is a small ribbon cable connecting between the HU controls PCB and that of the dual HVAC. I can get my fascia custom fab'd to accept a 2-DIN - but I'm not sure about the function of that ribbon cable....
