Steelie Car Mount Kit for tablet?

Postby Monkey » Thu Sep 26, 2013 6:31 pm

As the title suggests, I'm wondering if anyone has used the Steelie Car Mount Kit to hold a tablet?
http://www.niteize.com/product/Steelie- ... nt-Kit.asp

I just got off the phone with the Australian distributor who said it is designed for phones, and probably would hold a tablet, but he wasn't sure about the strength of the 3M adhesive and the smaller magnet to support a tablet larger than 7" long term

Note: the Pedestal Kit (http://www.niteize.com/product/Steelie-Pedestal-Kit.asp) has the larger magnet, but no adhesive base (moreover, I think it would look crap mounted on a dash).
Currently the larger magnet is not sold separately in Australia, but may be coming soon.

I thought this might be a cheaper/temporary alternative to an in-dash install or for those who have a 10" tablet...?

If anyone has done this successfully I'd be interested to know.

SSD and flash memory are not affected by magnets. There's many articles on this, but here's one: http://www.howtogeek.com/124713/are-mod ... a-magnets/
Also, consider that people have had iPads in magnetic covers for years.
