Factory McIntosh Head Unit - no sound

Postby cynner » Fri Aug 09, 2013 3:23 pm

Hey all,

Looking at buying a MY08 Liberty and the head unit doesn't appear to work (it turns on but no sound at all).

The dealer is checking that it's wired in correctly, etc... but if not - does anyone know if it's easy to pick up second-hand stereos?

I'm assuming it's a little harder than an old car to replace the factory head unit? (seems to be fairly well integrated in the dash?)

Chances are the amp is no good, under the passenger seat. Pretty straightforward to replace the whole system with afrermarket, just expy because you need to do the amp + HU + fascia

Ahh ok. So replacement amp might be the way to go... has anyone priced one up before?

Stock replacement would be cheap and easy to install yourself. 2nd hand from a wreck that is.

Cool thanks guys.
Turned out the car detailer steam cleaned the carpet, including the amp. The dealer is going to fix it...
