McIntosh Sub Rewiring - diagram? Power handling?

Postby Prezza » Tue Nov 01, 2011 4:35 pm

Hey guys,

I have recently bought an 08 Lib GT-STi with the McIntosh system. For me, this is more than enough, and i dont intend on changing / upgrading this at the moment.

The previous owner, however, had an amp installed in the boot to power a 12" sub, instead of the factory parcel shelf sub. As the parcel shelf sub no longer operates, i assume hes taken the signal from the sub (some where under the carpet), amped it and sent it to a new sub.

What im wanting to do, is remove this amp, and reconnect the factory sub to work as normal, but i dont know exactly where the signal has been cut, so i need to back track.

SO:
Question 1 - does any one have a wiring diagram for the mcintosh system so i can trace the wires under the back seat (and which colours) to see whats going on.

OR:
Question 2 - does any one know how much power the factory 8" sub can handle? I (for a few seconds), connected the factory sub to the new amp, and it works, and works well. Has a good kick, but i dont want to leave a 500w amp wired up to a little 8" sub, if its going to blow it up.

Thanks!

Clarence had a PDX5 running all his speakers. I think from memory that puts out 300W RMS minimum on the sub channel. He said it ran fine on that.

As far as I know, the wiring comes from under the pass seat and goes along the pass side in the wiring channel and then up the quarter panel and into the parcel shelf. You should be able to see the wiring for the sub from the boot if he has still left it and just cut it somewhere else.
