Gen 3 full screen head unit

Postby Kook » Sun Oct 17, 2010 4:29 pm

Not sure if all models came standard with the Tape/CD unit (not able to be seperated from each other) that is in my RX. It was probably great back in the day to be able to listen to both formats however I want to change it.

I was looking at putting in a universal pocket/headunit kit but it bugged me that I would then have 2 pockets (standard and additional). After more consideration I got quite attracted to the idea of putting in a full screen head unit (dunno what they are called but I'm sure its kinda self explanitary). The area seems to be the perfect size for it and solve my double pocket problem.

I was hoping for any ideas and advice from anyone who has done the same to that Lib and possibly pics to go with it.

Cheers.

I've got an Alpine HU - Looks better than the single DIN IMHO :)

Hi Luke, its all fairly standard stuff. Your looking for a double din system. The biggest screen you can get is a 7" inch. Many are about 6.5" and have buttons and knobs along the side. About the only advise you'll need to is to buy an adapter kit for the radio as the standard Subaru radio plugs won't connect to an aftermarket system otherwise. Its not expensive, and its usually in stock at your local Jaycar or most good car audio retailers. Other advise includes not buying those generic branded "ebay" units that entice you with their extremely low prices. Stick to the main brands (Pioneer, Alipine, Kenwood etc) and you'll be fine.

Michael, that's exactly what I was picturing it to look like. Looks perfect.
Shiv, I was gonna stick with alpine since I'm pulling my alpine speakers from my old car but thanks for the tip. As for the adapter short of driving to Brisbane there isn't any jaycar near me so I'm hoping JB might have them.

Thanks for the help guys.

For the wiring harness adapters. jump on the following website and find your closest stockist:

www.aerpro.com.au

Not sure, you may also be able to buy direct
Now that I'm in North America, I'm greatly concerned about raised pick-up trucks and owners of wedge shaped vehicles. Seriously, not only do you have to be concerned about one hitting you in an accident, they stand a good chance of driving over you at the same time!
