Adding a Satnav

Postby Nick3.0R-B » Tue Sep 21, 2010 10:41 pm

Gday guys..recently got an 05 3.0R-B and i want to add a satnav/media lcd.

How will this work? will music still be controlled from the existing headunit and have track names appear on the lcd?

Or will the existing unit be useless?

Cheers all!

IMO ditch the factory unit and get yourself an after market unit. Alpine, eclipse, pioneer or kenwood.

Two main options, well three actually:

1. As Shane said, slam in a new deck but you will need a new fascia to fit a double / single DIN (actually one of the guys here dremelled his into shape so you could do that)

2. Install a Car PC with a touch screen in the cubby hole area, there are 2 posts (I think) that cover how to do it (or at least get started)

3. (this is what I did cause I'm lazy and not that committed to option 1 or 2) Get a GPS with mp3 playback, if it has an FM transmitter then just stick in on and away you go...or you can get a CeNet adapter (all the threads relating to IPOD and MAC unit listed here on this sub-forum) that will take input from a 3.5mm jack if you don't want to use FM (it works well about 90% of the time in Sydney)

Then there's the whole IPOD integration thing that is kind of a similar adapter to the 3.5mm jack input into the CeNet plug on the rear of the deck...this has been talked to death so yer, search on brother
Now that I'm in North America, I'm greatly concerned about raised pick-up trucks and owners of wedge shaped vehicles. Seriously, not only do you have to be concerned about one hitting you in an accident, they stand a good chance of driving over you at the same time!
