WHY IS MY CD PLAYER SKIPPING? 05 McIntosh

Postby Pyramidrocker » Sun Aug 15, 2010 7:40 pm

My McIntosh unit skips. But it seems to stop when the car warms up a little, say after 20mins of driving.
I've tried the cleaning disc and it hasn't helped and yes it does do it to brand new cd's and the burnt ones.
Anyone know why??

Is your car parked outside overnight?
This is often due to condensation on the lens, so it does need to warm up to dry out.

No it's allways garaged. I've heard about this, hopefully it will sort itself out in summer!
But god damn it's annoying. Any quick fixes for this?

I have also had this issue since new and 6 headunits later it is still an issue.

Where do you get a panel so I can replace the headunit?

Cheers

Ive noticed a lot of people have had this issue me included, there is a part in the subaru car book about this, they say its not uncommon for the cd player to skip when first started and that it may take some time to warm up.

I had a similar problem with my GT... Was told that the laser is rather sensitive to dust on those units (Not sure how true that is), but I did make special note to ensure the discs were clean after that & never had an issue... Mind you, that was after I had the head unit replaced under warranty ;)

It also might be a good idea to obtain a lens cleaning CD. Obviously the car is around 8 years old, so it could assist you.
