Single DIN head unit into MY04 Liberty. How?

Postby corvus » Sun Aug 29, 2010 1:48 am

Hi guys,

I'm new here so not sure if this particular issue has been covered before.

I've just bought an MY04 Liberty with a dash that looks like this:
http://storage.mednez.net/lib/centre_console.jpg
(this one isn't my car, but it's exactly the same)

The thing is, I've got a brand new single DIN JVC stereo from my old car that I want to keep.

I've seen pictures of installations with double-DIN head units like this:
http://users.tpg.com.au/v1n4/Alpine.jpg
... Only mine is a single DIN.

I've found this part kit:
http://www.avojdm.com/product_info.php? ... b78bac7e6a

Obviously, this is to accomodate a double-DIN headunit. But is there something I can get that would put a pocket in to fill the gap?

Basically, I just want to know what I need to buy (and where to buy it) in order to fit this head unit into my dash.

In case anyone wants to offer alternatives, I'm not interested. My headunit has features like iPod connectivity, bluetooth, and stores my contacts from my phone.

Has anyone got any advice? I won't be installing this myself, as I've got no experience and don't want to risk ruining something.
Although if I get all the parts myself, it might be cheaper (?) I'm located in Sydney.

Thanks for any help. :D

Buy the WRX 2003-onwards single DIN pocket. It fits perfectly and is around $40.00.

Thanks for that. Where's the best place to get these from?
Have you changed your MY04 Liberty fascia? If so, where did you get yours from?

Has anyone else fitted a new fascia onto their MY04 Liberty?

Sweet. Mind if you give me a URL to the part? Just want to make sure I'm getting exactly the same thing.

For the pocket, it is key #66123 in following diagram:

http://www.japanparts.com/images/ImageF ... 1&no=16070

Japanparts part #113-446-66123

The Double DIN fascia kit is part #107-209-006 You'll need the "A-C Silver" variation.

Ok guys, I've went ahead and ordered this:
http://www.avojdm.com/product_info.php? ... b78bac7e6a

Does anyone know any good installers in the Sydney metro area? I don't really have the confidence to do this myself, especially since it involves tinkering with the climate control.

Where did you guys go and get yours done? (if in Sydney) And how much?

Speak to Marty at FHRX Studios.

Also I've heard good thinks about Doran Pro Audio.

I didn't end up using Marty at FHRX to do any work but he was really helpful and fired back e-mail questions almost straight way and this was after 7pm...just saying I got a pretty good vibe off him.

I'd definitely use him if I end up doing anything in the future (I'm replacing a buggered stock sub with another so I don't need the custom work now)
Now that I'm in North America, I'm greatly concerned about raised pick-up trucks and owners of wedge shaped vehicles. Seriously, not only do you have to be concerned about one hitting you in an accident, they stand a good chance of driving over you at the same time!

Nice! May I recommend the VIBE Space 8 if you have the sedan. I installed one in my car and it sounds great :D

Mind you, im not sure of the power output of the stock amp, so not sure how well it will be powered.
