Headunit removal on MY02 liberty rx

Postby Lewis » Sun Jul 18, 2010 2:35 pm

First post here, so here goes nothing...

Picked up my first ever car yesterday, 02 liberty rx. Current headunit doesn't have aux. in and I want to run my ipod through it so im getting a new one.

I searched on here and the net, but found nothing. Was wondering how to remove current headunit? Am i going to have to remove the whole centre console trim or is there and easier way?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need to remove the trim around the gearstick area. Remove ashtray and there is 2 screws that are where the ash tray was. Get a torch and have a look you will see them. Now remove the surround that is around the the stereo and that's it. Hope it helps as once you do it you will see it is easy

Even after taking the ash tray out though, there is no possible way to get a screwdriver in there, nor can i see any screws? i got the trimm off from around the gear stick, is the trim around the radio just held in by clips? or is it screws as well. I assume if there just clips i can just pull it straight off?

You need a short screwdriver to remove the two screws at the top of the ashtray. As soon as you remove these you're able to pull the whole fascia out by popping the clips.

But a small phillips screwdriver, also if you buy an aerpro adapter it will make it easier. I used a wrx one

the screws are there, just feel for the cross with your fingers...just swapped out my head unit, dont know if this is normal but my my00 had a female aerial connector, so i had to make a male-male coax cable....and definatly get the aeropro stuff..massive time saver...
