Mcintosh System MY10 - need more BASS

Postby AzzaGT » Thu Jul 29, 2010 9:20 am

Hi everybody, I have had my MY10 GT since December and keep meaning to get on here and ask some questions re audio system;
- The manual shows a "subwoofer level" control in the "balance/fader" screen but mine doesn't have this?
increasing the Bass in the audio controls puts more into the door speakers which just makes them distort. Does anybody know if there is a crossover or gain on the amp possibly?

I can see the tiny sub in the boot but honestly the 6 inch stock door speakers in my Dodge pump out so much more Bass than a "top notch" audio system in a $60K luxury car?

i doubt there is a gain knob on the amp.

i would suggest installing some dynamat underneath the rear parcel shelf. i have done this recently and it has increase the bass noticeably, it's still not good, but with the factory driver etc it never will be. your next bet would be replacing the driver.

Most standard systems seem to be lackluster in the bass area... Thus why there are a few Gen 4 drivers that have put after market subs & amps in.

Remember, the Mcintosh system is ment to be high end IE - Used to listen to classical music etc... Well, at least, that's what they are like in home audio etc.

If you want a lot of bass, you should hear the Rockford system in the Mitsubishi's... My goodness it pumps... Shame the speakers aren't as good :P

The subwoofer level (and a few other features) are for the models with sat nav without the McIntosh system - i think only in the UK, it says on the page. The best setting ive found is fade it Rear 2.. its still not perfect but at least it doesnt sound like its all coming from in front of you.

I thought the McIntosh would be close to the Bose I had in the mazda, but I was sorely disappointed.

Actually I find the Mcintosh system on the 04 GT to have too much bass, and bad muddy bass at that.

Thanks for the info,
I had noticed that thediagram with the sub control was UK model. Was just hoping somebody managed to "find" one in AUS model.
My brother has a ralliart lancer with the rockford system and yes, it is nice, and a mate with a mazzy MPS i think it's bose, this is why i was a little dissapointed with the McIntosh.

Toss the Mcintoss, its a waste of space. I replaced mine with a JVC DV6105, and with NO other changes its MUCH better, even with no Sub connected....

Personally, I wouldn't have said the Mcintosh was bad... It just produces a different sound to other systems. The Rockford system very bassy, but doesn't have as much of a range... Bose IMHO (In the Mazda 3's) is probably the most balanced system for the kind of music most people generally listen to.

If you were to listen to orchestral or classical music, you probably wouldn't have a bad thing to say about the Mcintosh... Since I listen to a lot of swing & jazz music, I though it was pretty good. Mind you, all it needs to sound awesome is more powaaa & a larger sub ;)
