AUX in for 2008 Liberty 2.5i

Postby Laps » Mon Oct 26, 2009 9:26 pm

Hello,

Looking at putting an AUX cable to my head unit (non-MC). My dash looks like this:

Anyway I have a few questions:

1. Is there a way to install an AUX cable that uses a headphone jack rather than an ipod adapter (so I can plug in any MP3 player including my mobile phone)?
2. Does that cable have to run through the glove box? If so, are you able to change songs using the actual head unit?
3. If i do end up getting an ipod aux cable, does it charge the ipod?
4. How hard is this to install (anyone have manuals?), or am I better off getting subaru to do it?

Thanks for your assistance :D

Hiya,

I aren't an expert on the liberty but I have been reading extensively over the last week and from what I gather

1/Perhaps there's a cable that converts the black satnav harness at the back to the standard 3.5mm?
2/ you will definately need an aftermarket head unit to be able to change songs (which means you need the double din fascia kit from japanparts ($400)
3/ Not sure
4/ Subaru probably won't do it, I don't think it will be hard to install, best bet would be save $1500 and get an audio place to do it all for you, Get a new fascia kit, new head unit with AUX in and amp/speakers/sub

I am in the process of saving at the moment too lol, I miss my cassette deck on my old corolla... would have made things soooo much easier haha

1 and 2.: Yes there is, it's an official subaru accessory to allow an aux input for your head unit, and yes it does have to run through the glovebox.

3. There is no official ipod aux cable, though some other users have used a Clarion EA1215 or something like that on MY04-06. Search for aux in, this issue has cropped up a great many times

4. No idea how hard, never done it before, but to get Subaru install an aux input for your model was roughly $180 off memory.

Easiest thing to do here: just call Subaru, ask for spare parts, tell them you want an aux in for your model and they'll tell you how much it will cost

I can confirm if its just a 3.5mm aux in cable, there's no way it will charge the iPod, nor will you be able to change song.
