Firstly, this is my first post... picking up my Gen V GT Wagon tomorrow as an upgrade from my MY01 WRX (anyone want to buy my MY01 WRX?)
Just got a call from their aftersales dept trying to flog me a bunch of stuff including tinting the driver and passenger windows to match the factory darkened glass at the back of the wagons. Given the cost was a massive $395 for 2 windows of 35% i wondered what other options people can suggest. Key thing is for the colour to match the same as the other windows so that they look consistent.
Any suggestions? Where have you gone, and how much should i expect to pay?

Dealer tinting, paint protection etc are all cash grabs. Go straight to the source.
Whoever you end up using take down the film make and type for future reference in case you ever need to retint any of the windows.

35% is no way a match to the privacy glass.
you need at least 15% to come close......
i got quoted $699 for my front windows when buying my car......
i had mine done else where for $180 and that included 15% both fronts and 35 % over the rear window.

I recently had the front windows of our MY10 GT and Sports sedans done to match the privacy glass on the rear windows for $150 each. This was done in Canberra so I would ring around for the best price. To match the privacy glass you need 18% (which I did on both cars) and its not 'very' legal, just keep your windows down if speaking to Mr Plod.
Oh and by the way congratulations on your new car, I hope you love it.

I paid $300 for mine done by the dealer, its not that dark and I probably would go aftermarket if I had the choice again.

Where are you located? I've seen all 5 windows done for $250. Window tinting, paint protection, etc is a huge money maker for the dealership. It's like a 300% markup so I'd go outside if you can.

Thats a huge premium your paying for the dealer to do it. They'll be pocketing some of it.
I'm getting window tint done tomorrow (Friday) on my new car (and '02 Outback). Will cost me $320 but that INCLUDES stripping the old tint (a horrible job) AND mines a station wagon so they cost more to do.

I might be interested in getting the front side windows tinted to match the rear ones, how much would I be looking at for that? And what rating of tint is it to match?

Different brands have slightly different shades. You're best to just drop in the tint place and have them do a best possible match with the brand they carry.

I'll put a little more substance to the claims about dealer gauging on accessories. My partner recently bought a new Suzuki and paid the extra 395 for tinted widows on all 5 windows. I know it's Suzuki, but they used to also be a Subi dealer. You're kidding yourself if you think Subaru is any different.
A couple of days later I decided to have my GT's windows done at Tint-a-car around the corner from aforementioned dealer, and during discussion dealer tints came up and he showed me the job order for my partners car a couple of days earlier.
Same product. $395 from the dealer. $270 if I'd taken it in.
For the record I had 35% put on the fronts and rear, and a uv tint on the two rear doors in an effort to have the slightly reflective look that tint has. It's good, but not dark enough. You really do need 15-17% transmission to match the rear doors properly. Then there's the grey vs brown tint to deal with also.

That's cheap for a dealership! Every dealership experience I've ever had wanted at least $550 for the 5-windows.

If it's not too bold, how much for how many windows? What percentage of tint?
